Wait, that's a Supra? The front end looks like a Merc E-class (or whatever the coupe version of the E class is called).

Why should there be a law against it? How about laws against things you like to do that others find stupid?

that car is an actual racer for Pikes Peak and various other hill climbs, where maximum downforce is a goal. It's Steve beddor's RUF 911, and has evelved annually to stay the fastest hillclimber. A lot of the Porsche racers go to ultra tall wings to get the wing into clean air.

You may think it looks stulid, but racers don't care as long as it goes fast. A real, intelligent enthusiast would learn how to appreciate that.

the first year it showed up it looked like this:

And it won.

then, it showed up like this:

After spending some time on the track:

http://www.cpa-pca.org/more/rufday/index.html

But because even the small added wing wasn't enough to make it stable at it's newly aquired speeds, it showed up like the picture you posted. And it's stil the fastest thing out there in it's field.

Maybe you guys need to open your minds a bit before passing judgement on things simply because they don't meet YOUR personal sense of style.

Re: Your Car Looks Stupid!

I see what you're saying Chris, function before form. That is great for the racing world. However, you see people doing stupid things to their street car that make them unsafe. For instance, I was driving to work and saw a Mustang with the stock spoiler and they had also added an aftermarket wing. It was set at such an angle that it would produce quite a bit of lift. He also had bought some ugly 16" wheels with the wrong offset so they weren't flush with the fenders; in fact they sunk about two inches into the wheel well. He also had those wrapped with rubber band thin tires.

I hope he never actually tries to drive much over freeway speed with that car. My problem is when bad looking form hinders function.

Re: Your Car Looks Stupid!

Well, there is a difference between different taste and poor workmanship/ decidedly unsafe parts.

Although, a lot of people might say my lowrider cars are decidedly unsafe for not having enough ground clearance, so even that aspect is up for debate. And since some of those cool "rat rods" could count as unsafe and "poor" workmanship, we have to even take THAT description with a grain of salt.

Basically, unless someone came up to your car and changed it in a way you dont' like, we need to let it go. Even if we think it's mondo ugly.

As far as form vs function goes, classic '50s Customs tend to be form over function, and the way they are built hinders their performance if you are comparing them to drag cars or road racers, but are we going to call cars like this rice or stupid because they aren't fast, AND their mods are primarily cosmetic?

As for that mustang you describe, putting multiple wings on it might count as lacking in taste, I doubt that any small street wing will affect a heavy car like that enough to cause an unsafe condition on the street.

Re: Your Car Looks Stupid!

Here's a bunch of ugly cars not sure why some are in there, but a lot of them are craptastic.

Man these are hideous...

It might serve its purpose quite well. personally, i think the owner should just go the whole nine yards, bolt some turbo-fan jet engines on it, and FLY over pikes peak. hell, its halfway there already. just flip them upside down. put another one on the front, a couple stabilizers, and there you go. im just screwin around, i think it looks pretty ugly, but i agree, if it works, it works, i'd go for function over looks any day of the week.
