CARB GUYS-305 Smoking-Too Much Fuel?
Carb guys, I need your help....please.
I recently purchased a 1984 Camaro with a 305 HO. I recently removed the computer, smog equip., Non working A/C, Computer controlled Distributer, flex cooling fan, and all the other junk that goes along with it. I installed a Edelbrock performer series intake, 600 cfm Edelbrock electric choke carb, factory electric cooling fan and a vacuum advance HEI distributer. It also has headers with dual exhaust. After installing all of the above I am getting a lot of smoke from fuel burning off. I have adjusted the air/fuel mixture, checked for carburator flooding and adjusted the choke and ignition timing. It runs great, full thorottle and idle....It just smokes....and yes it is smoke from fuel, not oil. Do you think I need to further adjust the carb and lean it several stages or is there something else that I need to do? Also, how do you measure how much psi your fuel pump (manual) is putting out? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Re: CARB GUYS-305 Smoking-Too Much Fuel?
You need to get a fuel pressure regulator, perferably an adjustable one. Set it at 6-7 psi. That should be more than enough for that 600 carb. Also you want to tune your carb. Screw the jets all the way in then back out a quarter turn and start from there. Some other people might do it differently and that's fine too, but that's what has alway worked for me. Start there and keep pulling them out untill your where you want it to be. But deffinatly get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, to much fuel presure will make you run like shit, if not flood your motor. Hope this helps.
