Your favorite car ever from each of these countries:

There have been alot of 'best car ever' and 'favorite car' threads, but opinions often get tangled over whether or not an Italian car is the best, or a German, or Japanese, American, etc. So let's try a new question:

What is your ONE favorite car, current model or historical, to come from each of these countries:

England
France
Germany
Italy
Japan
United States

I have left out those countries with a smaller import range, single model, low production, or too-recent history of manufacture. If you feel the need to add one, like Czech Republic, Spain, Korea, Australia, Ireland, Russia, etc...then go ahead.

Here are my picks to start it off:
England - 1961 Jaguar XKE E-Type Roadster

France - 1967 Renault Alpine A110

Germany - 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing

Italy - 1962 Ferrari 250GTO

Japan - Toyota 2000GT

United States - 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 427

LET'S HEAR (OR SEE) YOURS!

Re: Your favorite car ever from each of these countries:

Of cars I've driven:
England - Jaguar XJR or Bentley Continental T

France - I can't think of any French cars I've driven! I am looking for a Renault GTA (technically, American), though.

Germany - new Audi S4

Italy - Alfa Romeo 164S 5-speed

Japan - Infiniti G35 or Infiniti Q45a (as long as someone else is paying for any repairs on the Q45a) or Subaru WRX STi or Mazda RX7 (third generation), or Honda S2000

United States - Corvette coupe or Z06

Cars, in theory, to add to my collection:
England - MGTF, McLaren F1 (why not?), FWD Lotus Elan, Caterham Super Seven and/or 21, Aston Martin Virage sedan or shooting brake

France - Bugatti Royale or Type 57, Talbot Lago

Germany - Mercedes-Benz SSK, 500K, or 300SL gullwing

Italy - Lamborghini Miura, Ferrari 456 sedan or estate, Maserati Quattroporte (and generation), deTomaso Deauville or Beauchamps

Japan - Toyota 2000GT, Mazda RX7 (third generation)

United States - Duesenberg (any model), Cord (any model), Packard (selected models), Chrysler Town & Country (first generation convertibles), Lincoln Mark II or Mark III, 1974 Bricklin 4-speed (technically, Canadian)

Alot of newer cars popping up on the list!

Also, surprising not too many French cars are known! With a history of Peugeots, Citroeans, Renaults, Bugattis, Talbot Lagos, Delahayes, and more...they's been making cars for more than 100 years!

I strongly considered going with the Bugatti Atlantique, or the Talbot Lagos for my French pick...but I couldn't help picking the Renault A110...even though it isn't worth as much, just the fun driveability, the great rally history, and the relative rareness on US roads...makes me want one really badly!

The Muira was a very close call for me for Italy. I still think it is likely the most gorgeous car to come from Italy. But the 250GTO won for me by merit of pure value, rareness, and race history.

2strokebloke: 1 cylinder Caddy runabout? I know you like the 2-strokers...but I didn't see that one coming. I figured you'd give props to America's smallest car from the past 60 years...the Nash Metropolitan!!

Oh, and the Fiat 600...isn't that a little too 'common' for a two-stroke expert such as yourself? How about a nice Vespa 400?:

DKWs are pretty nice...3-cylinder 2-strokers and nice aerodynamic designs. But do you have no love for the Messerschmidts?!
