1987 XJ6 engine running rough

hi all. im taking my try at higher end cars. im a honda mechanic right now. but my girlfriends dad is letting me work on his 87 XJ6.

it starts up but runs rough like it wants to die. sometimes it will. i know its a fuel problem becuase i jsut replaced the ign. system. well white smoke comes out when you step on the pedal and its got no power at all. when i pulled the dipstick it was all mixed with gasoline?!

he told me some guy steam cleaned the engine and messed up some electrical. no codes, lights or anything. the guy that steam cleaned it admitted to breaking it and he said all it needed was that big air flow meter on the intake tube. and a fuel pressure regulater?

what do you guys think. i need some jag experienced help.

thanks

what makes him so sure its the afm? did he validate this with a replacement one? May simply have a bad tank of case or a disconnected vacuum hose somewhere.
