Trans/diff leak..procedure?
I have a '95 Altima GXE, manual trans 4 cyl with approx 165k miles on it. I've recently noticed some spots of oil on my driveway and an increasing whine noise from the transaxle. I crawled under and saw there had obviously been a bunch of leaking going on but could not figure out where from.
I drained it, cleaned as much as I could, refilled and went for a quick spin. Noise was much better, it was definately low. But when I returned I noticed it was leaking again already....a steady drip no less1 Seems it's coming from where the driver side half shaft inputs to the diff. I suspect it's merely a seal but I can't be certain. Anyone ever heard of this or know of a procedure to replace that seal (if that is indeed the source)? I am very mechanically inclinded and have no problem doing the work, I'm more concerned about being able to do a bit of reading on the subject and whether or not my suspicion of a leaking seal is correct. So, any help on this would be most appreciated! Thanks. Jack Money |
