Intermittent CEL

I see other posts from previous years where people had this problem, but no posted answers, so I thought I'd try.
95 Isuzu Trooper, 208k miles. 4 months ago, transmission was replaced. Before that, I had an intermittent CEL. After it had been driven for 15-20 minutes, CEL would come on. If I stopped at a light or stop sign, light would go off. Step on gas, back on. Two mechanics I asked said "don't worry about it, probably a sensor." After transmission, did not come back, until 2 weeks ago. Again, only after being driven a while, goes on/off depending on if you are on the gas.
Tonight, driving home in heavy rain. CEL comes on. Almost home (couple hundred yards to go), sounds almost like it wants to stall. Rev the gas a little, get home. Put in park, let it sit, stalls out (usually idles fine). Too late for mechanics tonight. Asking friend - sounds like something in wiring getting mad at rain.
Usual mechanic seems to be getting tired of working on the car, so if I don't tell him the answer, he throws parts at it until it seems better, then sends me off until next time.
Admittedly, I have not changed plugs/wires in quite a while. Any chance this could be the cause of issue tonight, let alone CEL?
