93 Crown Vic overheating problem

My Crown Vic seems to over-heat way too easily. The other day, I was heading up a highway and doing about 70 mph and the temperature gauge went up past the R (of N O R M) so I slowed down to about 50 and it settle right down on top of the R. I took the nearest exit and came to a complete stop for a good 3 minutes and it stayed right on the R. Then when I took off, the temperature went back down to right in between the O and R. It was a cool 60 degree morning and low humidity but i was doing SOME driving before I hit the highway but I remember it used to not do this and it seems to do it a lot more and more frequent. I check my fluid levels and I think I am losing a little bit of fluid and I refill it, but it still seems to overheat too easily. Can anybody help?

check your intake manifold for leaks, but most probably your radiator is bad.

Yeah, my intake manifold is leaking, but it doesn't seem to be leaking too badly. My friend thinks it might be warped cuz he changed my intake gaskets and it's still leaking. Is there anyway to keep it cool with the small leak? At least temporarily until I can get it fixed.

I had the same problem with my intake manifold, it didnt seem to leak that much but I had to put in alot more anitfreeze/water than it seemed I was loosing, but is your manifold made out of plastic right where the thermostat housing/location of leak is? if yes then it most probably has to be changed and that should be the problem. good luck

If your intake manifold gasket has a leak it is probably sucking air. Extra air will cause your engine (or certain cylinders) to run lean, which makes it run hot.

If you already knew this, I didn't intend to offend.

Is there any kind of temporary quick fix I can do to keep it running cool until I can get it fixed? It's really starting to piss me off, it runs hot almost all the time and overheats easily. Another thing, I turn on my heater to try to draw some of the heat away from the engine but when I do this, it actually makes the engine overheat more and when I turn the heat off, my engine will cool off more. Why does it do that? It used to not.

Just try flushing your coolant, this will help to cool it better
