2002 BMW M3 Oil change
I tried to change the Oil and filter myself between scheduled factory recommendations last week. I got under the car, removed the plastic cover and could not find the oil drain plug!
Does anybody where? I'm going nuts. Thank you. |

Why are you doing the oil change yourself???? Go to the BMW dealer. If they find out that you went somewhere else to do your oil change, they'll terminate your free oil change service with the dealer and you will have to go out and pay for the oil change or do it yourself!

BMW M3
Why would the warranty be void? For changing the oil and filter more often? That's ludicrous!
BMW or any manufacturer can not have a monopoly on oil services. I have the recommended oil and OEM oil filter. I will not reset the computer. I would still go to the BMW dealer at the computer reading times. Bmw builds engines too well now. So in order for engines to wear, I believe BMW and other car manufacturers set the maintenance schedules long so that the engines will wear out faster. Plus, they also save money on performing less oil changes. Let me see... If the oil change costs $80 per visit, then multiply by 1 million vehicles, for example, gee whiz that's $80 million dollars that BMW just saved! Just my theory, but it makes sense to me. They will never admit it though. |

i don't get what the other dude saying about manufactures trying to make u mess your car up faster so u'll buy more cars. if they want u to buy cars more often, they'll make poor engine using poor parts and labor. honda make damn good engine regardless if they're from japan or good old usa. however, usa labor is not as good as that of japan since we don't take as much pride in our work here as they do over there.
bmw make great car, but not as great as they use to make them. they read about parts (power window, moonroof, etc) malfunction all the time, but they still make damn good engine. if i have bmw, i'll make sure i'll make the dealer give me all that free maintenance. while getting freebies, i'll get good with a good body shop in town so they can take over since bmw charge up to 260 bucks for an oil change. road & track report that bmw charged them 190 bucks for an oil change. take your car to bmw place. but i don't always trust dealership since they always work behind close door. |

I don't know what other dude is talking about either...
Anyway, if you took both covers off... small one and big plastic one from the bottum. Drain plug should be to the side by the transmission. I wish I had a picture to show you but it's there... |

Re: 2002 BMW M3 Oil change
physiatrist is somewhat correct. To be honest, it doesn't matter whether you use regular or synthetic oil. If you don't change your oil frequently, dirt in the oil will still wear on your engine. I'm a little too concerned about the frequency of my oil changes and do so every 2,000 miles. I do agree with physiatrist that the scheduled oil changes are a little too infrequent.
Okay, off my soap box and onto finding more information on changing the oil filter in my M3. |
