Re: 90 Geo Prizm (shifting Problems)

Is it a 3-speed or 4-speed?

You might want to try Lube Guard (red bottle)..

It is a 4 speed automatic transmission. Lube Guard? Red bottle? Whats that about? What is it used for? How does it work? Where can I buy it? I tried many lubes before even Lucus Transmission Oil, which helps in heavy shifting problems and strain. That doesn't even help. Did you have the same problem before and this stuff helped you out? Plus im not into buyin another trans for it. I just bought this one about 2-3 yrs ago. And findin someone to transfer automatic to manual would cost a fortune. So im stuck in between situations.

First thing is to get rid of that aftermarket stuff and put back that the manufacturer's recommended ATF, like Dextron III and put in the Lube Guard (Red) http://www.lubegard.com/automotive/index.html

FYI- Putting ATF other than the recommended stuff affects shift quality and creates drivablity issues (i.e. shutter feel and possibly slipping)

Another tip is if your ATF has a sweeter smell to it instead of a more sour smell, you're screwed. Its rebuild time.

Hope that works out for you.
