This one is my favorite:
The versatile Yugo GV, Hatchback economy car/desktop telephone I think it's really weird that there are over 100 views, but only one reply.

So true bloke, ignorant yanks. And you know what's funny, a piece of shit Ford Taurus 96 GL has less leg room then a frickin yugo haha... my legs hit the parts that cover the wheel pretty much im 6'2, and a yugo i mean just look at it lol plenty of room. The car was so cheap brand new, money vs what you get ratio is very good, mpg was really good. Using synthetic oils for the car would make it run hundreds of thousands of kms and people never give it maintance and then complain "what a piece of shit" ignorant bastards... but hey :P It does look ugly though... but when brand spanking new it looked pretty cool and clean but either way i wouldn't buy one now because id probably get shot by yanks lol... but would be cool to have it as a project car or something ah well.. still id get shot haha.

Talk about it! I know somebody who practically gave his Yugo away because the POLICE(!) wouldn't stop harrassing him for driving a "commie" car!
Personally I think that if people can think a BMC mini or a Citroen 2cv, or Honda Civic look cool, then a Yugo can too (though you have to face it, they're all ugly really) I find that usually it's the people who know the least about these cars that make fun of them the most. Any Yuppie will look and think "hey, that cars really cheap!, and it's really small!, and it looks funny! - I better say something quick to make fun of it to secure my position as a supperior human being!"

Lol and second of all Former-Yugoslavia was socialist not communist man would you believe people questioned how my family could have Hi-fi quipment, how we had cars (LOL), how we got audio cds, how other stupid questions under a dictatorship... hahahaha some funny questions.. We were like.. what dictatorship? LOL!
To an American anything non right winged capitalist is commi or something left and abandoned lol... Well the general public is this way anyway :P Glad I'm in canada haha.. Canada is actually socialist but.. sadly many are attempting to turn it right wing capitalist and it makes me sad :P |

lol - when the Yugo first came to the U.S. Jane Pauly on a TV show said that the car "came from behind the Iron Curtain" and was a product of the Soviet Union!
I think some people just needed to know their geo-politics better. Now I'm not absolutely sure because I don't know too much about Yugoslavia's history, but I thought that the country was communist until Josip Broz (Tito) died in 1980 - I may be wrong, but that means it had been five years since any Zastava cars could have been considered "communist" (though I also believe that cars don't have any political preference anyway) As to Canada - I think it's a shame that you people have to put up with all that NAFTA BS.

Oh and Tito was quite praised and still is, he basically put together a near 1st world country (we were on the verge of 2nd world 1st world country) in less then a hundred years and uniting the ethnic slav cultures there in 6 provinces into one country...with his death the country went crap, milosevic slowly but surely came to power and the country was torn apart and shit (in 89' he started the whole nationalist movement in kosovo, then the war practically started...) When Tito died, evertyhing went crap. Communist?.. sigh.. You know its sort of funny but communism in theory is very good for people and everyone, however it was never trully put into practice, stalin's ussr, etc.. that was not 'communist' that was tyrant dictatorship etc.. yet its labeled commi lol.. It's sorta weird. Oh and one philosopher teacher once told a religion theology class once that the only true communist was jesus :P Go figure it makes sense actually haha.. Former-Yugoslavia was socialist :P It is now too but its fucked up after the war + people are trying to privatize everything so in turn its not really socialist anymore its just mad chaos of super rich and super poor. You know its funny but... you know what people say about the new person that like died.. some comments I remember hearing them on TV lol.. well they claimed that he attempted to bring back sanity and good progress to yugoslavia (well now serbia thats all thats left its not technically yugoslavia anymore but they call themselves yugoslavian so ya..) they claim how he is the best since tito, etc.. ah well.. you know its really sad when you get a slav educated in the west and then saying things about former-yugoslavia when never living it lol.. many cases like that... ah well im getting political but ya just trying to correct misconceptions and myths. :P
And the bottom line is, the yugo was a piece of shit sure lol, but you know for the money it cost ('washing machine'?) uhm shit its a good deal so people shouldnt insult it :/ People praise hondas for their cheap price and purpose.. and well their price is right but heck :P Actually hondas are overpriced here due to importing taxes, transport, etc... In japan you can buy supras, RX7, etc... dirt cheap (used OF COURSE) but cost almost like new hondas etc... here in canada lol.. ah well. (low milage too) |

I still consider it Yugoslavia, after all on the globe at my house it is still as large as Italy (very out of date globe)
I wouldn't call the Yugo crap, I'd call it "cheap" or "cheezy" - but when it cost under $4000 at a time when the average car cost $11,000 it was one hell of a deal! I don't see how anybody could complain at that cost. Actually, I didn't consider the USSR communist, I thought of it for what it was - a dictatorship.
