Are Geo/Chevrolet/Suzuki all one company?

My g/f drives a 1996 Geo Tracker. I've seen Chevrolet Trackers out there on the road too. I was looking in the engine compartment and noticed "suzuki" on the airbox. Are all three of these companies somehow formed into one? Do parts from a chevrolet tracker fit on a geo tracker and what years are all the same for the Geo Trackers? Sorry for so many questions...i was just intersted.

Here's how it worked.

General Motors' Chevrolet Division was chosen to sell cars built by GM's partners and joint-ventures. GM owns part of Suzuki (about 10%) and started importing the Suzuki Swift/Forsa in 1984 and marketing it as the Chevrolet Sprint. About the same time, GM began importing the Isuzu (of which it currently owns 49%) Gemini as the Chevrolet Spectrum. Also about the same time, GM and Toyota opened a plant in California under a joint-venture called New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI), which produced the Chevrolet Nova (the FWD one).

In 1988, Chevrolet decided that they'd get more customers if the public didn't think these "imported" cars were Chevrolet products, so they formed the Geo brand name. Geo was never a "company," just a brand name sold by Chevrolet. The Sprint (then built in Canada under a Suzuki-GM joint-venture called CAMI) became the Geo Metro; the Nova became the Geo Prizm; and, for one year, the Spectrum became a Geo model. The Geo Tracker was added to the lineup.

The Sprint/Metro was primarily designed by Suzuki and has mostly Suzuki parts. Similar thing happened with the Tracker/Sidekick. Also, Isuzu and GM worked together on the Geo Storm and Isuzu Impulse.

The short answer: Chevrolet/Geo and Suzuki are not the same company.
