Emergency gaskets

Thought I'd share another old-timer trick with ya all.

If you need a cardboard gasket, [primarily for thermostats or other areas that use cardboard gaskets], you can make one yourself.

Get a piece of thin cardboard, from a beer or pop container, and a hammer.

Cut to oversize from what you need, and hammer the cardboard evenly to compress it and thin it out. Then trim to fit. It works.

Re: Emergency gaskets

The small hoses on either side of the thermostat housing aren't usually stocked at parts stores. I know, I just blew up both of them. No despair, just take the hose to the parts store, have them match the curve to any hose, and then cut to size. It works. [Hint, soak the new cut hose in hot water for awhile first, it makes it easier to bend into the fittings].
