I had a 1980 280zx, and the only bodykits I could get was from www.nismoparts.safeshopper.com\35\cat35.htm? and the body kits weren't the best, Can I say this custom it's the only way to go.

I had a Viper style(GTS-R) rear wing, and custom front bar(Veilside style), new bonnet scoup, sideskirts w/ pulled wheelarches on the front and replacement(Riveted) rear arches to cope with 18"x 13" rims and 335/35/zr18 rubber on them, L28 with supercharger(37psi) 545 hp @ rear wheels, awesome, 10.5 1/4.

I'll show a picture as soon as I find them, and my website is up and running, hey I'll even give you some plans and blueprints for the Kit.

280zx rock

First thing you must do is find a 280zx 82' - 84' turbo manifold, then get your block checked, if your block is stuffed, then go for a either L28 turbo or RB26DETT if you can spend the money, but if not just get the manifold, because it has almost very thing you need for the forced induction side, ok next your bottom end will need alot work though, will you go for the Turbo or Supercharger, thats the next question.
:bandit:
Don't be fooled the 1982 280zx GT race car had 588hp from a turbo, the lag wasn't really a major problem but when the car was under 2000 rpm there was a little lag(round town driving, but chuck on a anti-lag system I did only for the BackFIRE, hee hee hee).

:alien2: Turbo (you will need a BIG turbo, second hand you will be looking for at turbo of a 3 litre engine or bigger.)
Supercharger.

Above all go hard, I am still trying to find the layout prints, But I'll talk you through it, if need be.

Thumbs up Body Kits

http://www.zcarparts.com

Motorsport Auto has basically all the vailable body kits for the 280ZX. Most of them are bolt-on scoops that hang under the front bumper and really look bolt-on. The one that I like the best (and have on my car) is Motorsports Euro air dam.
:hehe:
It is a one-piece bumper/air dam that replaces the whole lower valance and rubber bumper cover.

http://www.zipcon.net/bleach/pages/purplez.html

that link shows my car. The pictures are not all that good, and I only painted it black because the purple paint was a custom mix and I can't get any anymore. (stupid thing to do) Its made of fiberglass. My car is standard height, so I haven't run into anything yet! :sun:

Motorsport Auto also sells side skirts, a rear valance that also replaces the bumper cover, and several styles of rear spoilers if you want one.

These kits work on the 280ZX in all years (1979-83) The side skirts are only available for the 2-seater models, not the 2+2.

:sun: BleachZee,

To cool, you saying that you might use the 2+2 for parts.............No-way, it way too cool to be a donor car, anyway try for a 280ZX-E or 280ZX NAPS 2 seater, turbo. And hold on for 200bhp.

Anyway, here's my Supercharger for Lars, it was a VORTECH V1, Designed for a 5.0l V8, it mounted quite nicely on the side, hee hee hee.

And I have just bought a 82' 280 2 seater, good thing I still have the Gartrag 6 speed.............

I'm not sure what you got out of my message, but the 280ZX 2+2 is my daily driver and I'm not using it for parts. I don't have a 2-seater car.

The front air dam works find on any model ZX. All I have right now is the front air dam. The rest of the body is stock

I was wondering what such a supercharger, you had, might cost?? It's pretty expensive isn't it?? If I get such a big supercharger, or almost any supercharger, will i not need to change almost all stock parts in the motor so it can last? Such things as pistons and crankshaft?

OK I miss intrepted you message BleachZee, I thought it said if you did find another 280z, you would use it for parts or is that just my own thoughts, nevermind, good work on the 2+2 anyway.

As for the total amount for the Supercharger, are sitting down Lars, it was a cheap $1,250 NZD second hand, off as I said a 5.0 V8, if you can get one second hand sweet, but I did spend $15,000, rebuilding my engine to get it fully done, however if you do go with the supercharger then you should get about 5-9 lbs of boose before you need to start with the internals, but the starting cost will depend on the intake side...
- Throttle body, mine was a z32 300zx custom fit, you should'n really need to worry about this yet.
- And the Manifold, but mine was turbo to start with so I had hardened internals anyway(That went to about 20 lbs boost before going for the drop).
- Fuelling, New or second hand fuel pump, preferably off a turbo six, maybe not important, right away, but more horsepower you want more the car will drink, racing pumps are VERY good at this, but they come with the money.
- Do you have any Turbo or forced induction specialists in your area, it will pay to see what they have to offer because you might pick up a small supercharger that will boost you upto 5-7 lbs, for about $300 NZD, even thought it was for a 2.0 in-line 4, it might just give you the horse power increase that you need now, then later on think about doing the engine work, and maybe a larger Supercharger, they retail around the $2500 - $6,000 NZD mark, but hey look for the Centrifugal unit(Ones that look like a Turbo, not the Roots style verisons 'the blower out of the bonnet'), because they are the most compact and powerful, the boost is controlled via the size to the pulley, larger the pulley the more boost @ same amount of RPM, so you can overboost them, or if need be underboost them, if you want to you could have a 'Gearbox' style have two or more pulley's, but this very difficult to do in practice, trust me.

As for the Cost all I can say is look out for deals, try wreakers(Ones that you trust), and/or go to a Forced induction specialist and ask for any second hand ones that you could possably fit on your 280, without much in the way of engine mod, so ask for a 5-7psi boost for a 2.8 litre engine, see what they have ask them for the fitting cost as well, they should start at around $1000 NZD fitted, you will have to ask around, don't be shy, tell them what you want.

Right the next thing you must do is, if you see one you like, ask if you can listen to it, becuase some are noiser than others. Ok Superchargers produce more heat than your average turbo, so ask about mounting a small intercooler, again with the amount of boost you want, this maybe unnecessary at this time, but you will get alittle more horse power out of your engine, just some food for thought.

Ok I thinks that sums up about all I can think of right now.........

......ok how are your brakes?

OH and I take it that your 280zx is injected, being 1980?

It isn't going very well, I'm pretty much outta cash. The car is VERY expensive to drive, i pay 1000 danish kroners, in petrol, every week, just by driving it normally. And i can't understand why it uses that much petrol, but i have a suspision that the engine isn't adjusted properly.

It's too bad because you would realy like to get on with tuning the engine.

Whoa is it injected or Carbi?

this could be the main reason it is guzzling the gas, if it's a carbi.

If it's injected then have a look and the injectors, they may need cleaning, how long was the last tune-up, or oil change(which ever if first).

use Mobil Prep-up, Engine-up, and fuel-up that can help clean the engine out a bit........

is it smoking?

the list goes on?

It's injected, but i recently found out, that my rear brakes are hanging (or how you would say it). So i think i have found one of the reasons it uses so much petrol.

BTW. have you found the blueprints for the look convertion??
