1/24 DAF 95 6x4 "SAAN"

Bought and started this kit a year ago. I just wanted to do a truck again, something without high-gloss finish, nearly OOB to finally get something done again. - However, that was my plan...

Searched for a nice example, and came up with this:

Italeri didnīt make a new chassis for this kit but simply took over the one from their DAF 3300 with little changes. I decided to not make a 6x2 conversion and left it as it was.

I tried plumbing and wiring for the very first time. I had to look up how those air brakes work and to be honest, i only used that as a guidance. In the end, most of it was done by phantasy.

Re: 1/24 DAF 95 6x4 "SAAN"

First time for me making valves for the wheels.
For the colours, Iīve chosen RAL 2008 Bright Red Orange and RAL 6029 Mint Green.

Chassis almost ready in primer:

Some work had to be done on the engine, too. I didnīt want to do a true 95 engine, but could leave the kit-engine completely unchanged.
I at least wanted to have the turbo-charger at the right side and give it a better over-all impression of a 95 engine. I scratch-built a new manifold, made some new air hoses and added fuel rails and wires.

So nice to see many skilled modelers building trucks. Also this one is great.
How about a special truck section in the forum?

Re: 1/24 DAF 95 6x4 "SAAN"

Thanks a lot, Paolo!

Dashboard needed some additional switches and lights. I drilled holes for the gauges too, because i didnīt wanted to use the simple, plane kit decal only.

Flat background for headlights was a little bit to less for my taste, so they got a "housing" behind it.

I applied some coats Tamiya grey Primer and white Primer, followed by Tamiya TS-7 Racing white straight out of can.
Iīve found several pictures of Saan-trucks and some seem to be white, while others seem to be very beige, so i thought TS-7 would be a good choice.
Then I masked the upper half and put on RAL 6029 "Mint Green" by airbrush.

To be honest, thatīs exactly what Iīm trying to avoid - to much detail.
I really want to get something finished again and not something that takes years. Somehow this always takes the fun out of it for me. Itīs a hobby for my free time after all, so it should be nothing but fun and not be taken too serious.

Nevertheless, thanks for your input again! - Seems like weīre almost alone in our truck threads!

Appreciate the trucks being built so well on here!
Having just finished my first Truck & Trailer combo I'm understanding how much work goes into these!

Re: 1/24 DAF 95 6x4 "SAAN"

Paolo reminded me with his wonderful Fiat truck itīs about time to show some progress here.

Made myself some Decals and had them printed by decalprint.de. Was quite some work to get all those logos and lettering right. That Dutch "TÜV" logo was the most difficult to find.

Chassis finally got some paint and was weathered by using Revellīs pigment set. Worked really nicely and was fun to do.

Oh dear, I have to check the turbo! Itīs leaking oil!

Re: 1/24 DAF 95 6x4 "SAAN"

super cool, and happy to be responsable of this progress

6x4 is really cool combo, here in sweden nearly everythink is 6x4 (but up to norway Iīve seen some MAN 8x8 more than amazing...and big footed !)

is really coming nice, they are BIG models and is a pleasure to look those uncommon subjects

Re: 1/24 DAF 95 6x4 "SAAN"

Wasnīt happy with the quarter fenders the kit came with. They still belong to the older DAF 3300 and do not match this younger model.
I made new brackets from brass rod and took fenders from Italeriīs Mercedes-Benz NG kit.

Cab about to be finished. I almost forgot to drill the holes for the horns.

Re: 1/24 DAF 95 6x4 "SAAN"

On with the interior:
Seats and beds were painted flat grey. Blue stripes are self-printed on clear decal sheet and engine tunnel got some blue flocking.
The steering wheel is a modified kit part to look more like a DAF 95 wheel and less like 3300.
