Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth
UH, sorry I take that last sentence back...I just discovered that my Formula runs low 14 stock, n/m about that SL being faster. Sad i've owned the Formula for almost 2 years, and I JUST found out the 1/4 mile time for stock. Now that makes me want to sell my SL instead of my Formula...hmmmm...oh well, now I don't know about this whole issue, so I take back everything I said, and if I happen to race a GT in my SL i'll let ya know what happens lol.

Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth
Nice kill man. I have a couple of mustang kills with my SL, from a stop my car doesn't seem to have as much pick up, but when it gets going, it really gets going. My favorite kill was on a Mach 1 off a roll on the freeway. This gunmetal Mach 1 was tailing me on I-5 heading to San Francisco, we were in the usual bit of traffic so there was not much we could do at first. Once we broke out, we were cruising at around 80mph, when he stopped playing cat and mouse and finally dropped the hammer. Likewise I did the same. He had the jump till we broke a hair over 100, by this time my SL started crawling ahead. And once 125 hit, it was a walk in the park. I was surprised I thought I was going to get creamed for sure. I have a 91 SL with flowmasters and custom piping and a K&N FIPK so I don't think I am pushing over maybe 235hp. The car also has 130k and a centerforce stage 1 performance clutch. The 3k is a pretty hefty car and the weight takes a toll at low end, well at least for the SL in my opinion, but once it gets rolling the thing can fly. I can't wait to get a VR4 though, AWD... too bad I sold my GSX, oh well sacrifices have to be made right?

Last time I checked a 99 3000gt SL was a DOHC engine putting out 218- 222 HP. However, I guess I don't know my own car and have never raced in my life.
On another note, Go Rams. |

Re: Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth
That I have to call BS on. A Mach 1 is a high 12 second car stock. 1/4 mile times play a factor into a roll race as well. Mach 1's also make about 305hp. They are definitely in TT territory. IF SL's aint beating 99+GT's they aint coming close to Mach1's.

Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth
Yall are making me want to find a 4.6Gt and race. I will find out soon, too many around here not to try. The only car that wanted to race me was an early model supra with a very loud blow off valve that was going to cream me. By the way is it me or are the 96 SL manuals sloooooooow from a start until 2nd gear?

Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth
just like previously stated, I would have to say the mustang was NOT, I repeat NOT a GT.
His engine sounded like a neon? It couldn't have been close to being a GT. The outcome is much more logical as well, our cars as well as many other cars blow v6 stangs out of the water. Had it been a GT he would have gained at least 2 cars off of the line (assuming this was an ok driver here) and probably further his gain into an even uglier race for the N/A 3000gt. I'm guessing you had a run in with a badged v6 mustang but good kill anyway. |

Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth
though mach1 are more in the mid to low 13's area, they still are too much for an sl
what happen is probably the guy wans't putting his all into it because as was stated above, it would be equivalent to beating a 2nd gen vr4, its not likely but i bet it was fun to at least play with a mach1

Re: Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth
nope when Machs first came out Paul Svinky(sp?) ran a 12.8 on a 100% stock brand new Mach1. I have seen a few at the track and they all were 12.9's etc. The Mach's basically have the old NA Cobra motor, DOHC 4.6.

Re: Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth
Thats from driver's inability to launch. I see plenty of Cobra;s running 12's. They are capable of low 12's maybe even high 11's stock.

Vr4 can take a mach1 definitely. I did in a street race but it we only took it to 90 mph and i was around 1 car length up on him with neither of us gainin tille he slowed down a bit and i did the same. It said Cobra on the back of it and i'm positive it wasn't the SVT.
Another thing, a friend of mine at the Gateway track around here in St. Louis ran a 13.3 with his mach1 stang. He's not a great driver either but his mods were only an intake and catback exhaust. Just some info. |

Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth
Cobra = SVT always has. Special Vehichles Teams has the Cobra, Lightning, SVT Focus and a few others. If it said Cobra you were racing a Cobra not a Mach.

cobra 390hp 390lbs tq 3600lbs 12.7 with an excellent driver
mach 1 305hp 300lbs tq 3466 mustang gt 300hp 320lbs tq 3483 13.8-13.6 doesn't quite add up to run 12's unless you seen a bunch of freaks. there's cases were the mach 1 broke into the 12's but every car has a freak. motor trend ran the mach1 at 13.8@102 road and track ran the mach1 at 13.7@105.7 car and driver ran the mach1 at 14.0 numbers and statistics alone are against your claims and i'm not doubting you seen 1 run high 12's, but on the average they run mid 13's
