Monogram Aston Martin DB4 (1/25)
Is the Monogram Aston Martin in 1/25 scale the same as the Revell, Aurora versions?
Also, are there any photo etch upgrade parts for this kit? Particularly the wheels. I remember this kit as a boy and messing it up. I would like to try building one as a companion to Tamiya's Aston Martin DBS in 1/24. |

Re: Monogram Aston Martin DB4 (1/25)
Doyusha Aston Martin DB5 might be a better way to go because it's 1/24 and a decent kit. You will have the same wheel issue though, you might want to replace them.

I'd consider the Doyusha but for one important reason. It's not the kit I remember tackling and being defeated by as a child. I really want to have another crack at the dream. This time it's personal. I rather like the box art on the Monogram kit and will probably get it for that as much as anything else. But except for an exceptionally professional build currently being undertaken by a contributer to a well known model car magazine, I've never seen a really crisp build of this kit. |

Sorry, the Doyusha kit is what?
I think it´s rather very bad... http://modelingmadness.com/reviews/c...ws/leedb5p.htm As bad as Airfix: http://www.modellbau-jemb53.de/Aston-Martin-DB5.htm Compared to this, the Monogram/Aurora DB4 is a real pleasure. http://www.wettringer-modellbauforum...threadID=22911 If you´ve never seen a crisp build of this kit, take a look here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=974988

Re: Monogram Aston Martin DB4 (1/25)
I don't think the Doyusha kit's that bad...
Unless you've already got one, your biggest problem is going to be finding, or affording the Monogram DB4. I've been looking for several years, since first seeing Simon's build under way, and I've never found one I was prepared to pay the going rate for. I'm hoping for a charity shop windfall (like the original Airfix James Bond DB5 I picked up for £6) because the DB4 is going up and up. Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll be reissued, or, just maybe, someone will hear my plea and tool up a new one in 1/24 which can then be boxed and released as a DB4, DB Convertible, DB4GT and DB4GT Zagato forms with different body shells! bestest, M. |

I have both kits and you can pick either of them apart...but one doesn't really stand above the other IMO.

Re: Monogram Aston Martin DB4 (1/25)
Okay. I'm bidding on an old Monogram kit on ebay so hopefully, will have an original kit to build soon. However, I'm still interested to know if there are any photo etch mechanical parts set for this kit. Mostly, the plastic wheels are the weakest part of the kit. Where can I get upgraded versions that would suit the model?

Re: Monogram Aston Martin DB4 (1/25)
I try to do some thing with this kit. I already finished the kit almos 2 years ago and even took the model to the GSL, where I consider the model was "overlooked". When I post the pictures later this week, you will see waht I meant.

Can´t say much to the body proportions or dimensions of the other kits, as i don´t have them. I only saw some built Doyusha and Airfix kits and to me they always looked as though they were top chopped. Quote:

Re: Monogram Aston Martin DB4 (1/25)
The kit first saw life with Aurora around '65 as part of a series of sports cars which for their day were very nicely detailed. It was reworked and issued a few years later as the Super Spy Car, aka Bond (Airfix held the model licence for James Bond). When Aurora went down Monogram got this among many other molds. It's been reissued at least a couple of times since then and I think it's about time Revell brought that sports car series back out.
I tried building the kit as a custom back in my teen years but never finished it but do have one of the reissued ones in the stash for sometime in the future. Also built the Maserati 3500 in that series and still have it on a back shelf. They were great models for their day and are still kits worthy of being built. |
