I'd hate to see this can of worms open again (for the umpteenth time). Click on the search above and do a quick look up - there are probably two dozen threads in here already on the subject. A lot of them have specs that you can read about. The biggest hurdle you have to decide for yourself is, what does "production car" really mean.

There is an aftermartet production car... I'm sure you know of Hennessey (Dodge's version of SVT).

The Hennessey Venom 800TT does 0-60 in 2.4 seconds. That made it 840 horsepower. 0-100-0 in 9.6 seconds

Now they have the new Venom 1000 that hits 1124 horsepower, but no times yet.

As for TRUE production...I am not quite sure, but I know there are some in the upper 2s for 0-60.

Don't expect much from Hennessy- he's a conman- his cars fell apart- whichever ones he made that is- since he took peoples cars- said he was working on them- but wasn't. Hennessy has been out of business for a while now. SRT is Dodges SVT.

Actually, the McLaren F1 roadcar completes the run to 60 in 3.2 sec. and the F1 LM completes it in 2.9- but they only made 5 F1 Lms making it void for quickest accelerating prodution car. According to guinness book of world records, the quickest accelerating prodution car is the Ford RS200 at something like 2.8 seconds or something. But what is really amazing is that the RS200 is a 4 cylinder and in road trim has a third the hp. But the car that set the record i believe was in Evolution trim which means it was more likely running in the 600s. They only mad 20 RS200 Evolutions. Just thought you might like to know.

Car_Man28 is spot on with the RS200 Evo.

For a car currently in production try the Caterham R500 in the 0-100-0 (MPH), its the current World Record holder in this trial.

0-30 - 1.6
0-60 - 3.47
0-100 - 7.26
Reation time - 0.31
100-0 - 3.68
0-100-0 - 11.25

Thats for a car on road tyres, to compare a Mclaren F1LM on slick held the record until 2002 with a time of 11.5secs

The Pagani Zonda was tested at the same time as the R500, its times were:

0-30 - 1.84
0-60 - 3.74
0-100 - 7.52
Reaction Time - 0.27
0-100 - 4.05
0-100-0 - 11.84

Check out the range:http://www.caterham.co.uk/

fastest 0-60

The fastest production, street legal super car to have been tested is the Dauer 962 Le Mans, with a time of 2.6 secs and a top speed of 404kph (just under 250 mph) The time it posted was also accomplished with street tires not slicks. This a production, street legal car that you can conceivably purchase, if you have $800,000+ in change. Being a production car simply means it came out of testing and prototype stage to be produced as road going vehicle to be sold, regaurdless of the number of vehicles produced...making the 962 a production vehicle. Vehicles such as the Hennessey Venom 800TT that claim to do 0-60 in 2.4 seconds are modified cars built by tuners with aftermarket parts, it would be no different than taking a honda putting enough nitrous and aftermarket parts in it to bosst the horse power to around 1000 and achieving sub 3 0-60 times, although it is based off a production car..realistically all that remains the same in these cars is the body design and the chasis. In essence these carse dragsters not street-legal road going cars. It all depends on what type of category of cars you are talking about. However strictly by the numbers the 962 beats the Mclaren F1 lm, Enzo, and claimed speed by Veyron (which has yet to be officially tested) If you would like more info on the specifications, history, and abilities of the Dauer 962..check out the site: http://www.962lm.com/index2.htm
