A/C problems, very weird? HELP!

OK, I noticed the A/C compressor wasn't coming on. My climate control blows very hot no matter if it's set at 60 or 90 degrees. The compressor isn't working so I checked the connection..good, the fuse...good, the relay is good (switched it with another one that works)...so then my mechanic could manage to get the clutch to kick in when jumping the relay. What is the problem? Anybody have any previous experience or knowledge of this problem?

Re: A/C problems, very weird? HELP!

Did your mechanic check the pressures of the refridgerant in the system? The switch he jumped to get the compressor to momentarily kick in was probably the pressure switch. The pressure switch will disengage the compressor clutch in the event that the pressure is too low or too high. The system lubrication is carried by the refridgerant, so if the pressure is too low due to a low charge, the compressor won't turn on and self-destruct.

Since the compressor kicked in when he jumpered the pressure switch, the control unit is sending a request for A/C. My bet would be either a low charge due to a leak or a faulty pressure switch. If you've got a low charge, determine the source of the leak and fix it.

Re: A/C problems, very weird? HELP!

He jumped the relay under hood in the relay box. It wasn't the pressure switch. Oh and get this..later today, the car wouldn't give me any heat this time. Then I switched on the passenger climate control and the heat began to come from both sides. There is also big time interference coming from something. My navigation screen is getting worse. I hear some popping in the speakers when I turn the ignition on.

Hmmm, I hope you didn't end up with a flood car.

No, I doubt it very much. No corrosion anywhere. Carfax with history and dealer OASIS shows previous history. Navigation had previous owners home programmed in. Maybe this is why he or she got rid of it. As I said before, the car was perfect for 1 week until I had the oil changed and then everything acted up. I guess I'll have to bring it to a lincoln dealership.

I'm not sure if they put the sensor in the same position in all years of LS. From the 2002 factory service manual, the A/C pressure transducer is mounted on a Schrader valve-type fitting on the A/C compressor to condenser discharge line.
