vss or trans? other sensors?
I replaced both my input and output speed sensor in my 96 dodge caravan 3.3l 3 days ago to pass inspection. Since I replaced them I have been having trouble with the van not wanting to go into gear when I put it in drive. Before I replaced them I had no trouble getting it to to go forward without hesitation other than a P0731 code(incorrect 1st gear ratio) and a P0720 (output sensor circuit malfunction). Now it's like the van gets going after mashing the gas for a few seconds to get it to jerk forward and when I am accelerating it will randomly drop speed and all it does is rev the engine until it jerks again. Could the sensors have caused all that? What else could be the problem? The previous owner had the trans rebuilt at my job so that shouldn't be the issue.

Re: vss or trans? other sensors?
I think your "spools" are sticking in the Tx.
I would drop the pan and check for steel chips or dirt. Mike |

Re: vss or trans? other sensors?
When you pull the Tx pan you will see the valve body.
It contains the shifting pistons "spools" that under hydraulic pressure, shift the Tx. I have a hunch that due to dirt or chips they are not moving as smoothly as they should. You stated that the Tx had been rebuilt. With the symptoms you describe, I think you are in for another one, and NOT at the same shop. Mike |
