Question 1992 transmission shifting problems

The Vehicle:
I have a 1992 Silhouette with 3.8L engine and 193K miles. I bought it with 165K miles.

The Problem:
When my transmission shifts above 2nd or 3rd gear, shifts are slow, and there is a grinding/chirping noise as if two clutches are being engaged at once. If I am at highway speeds and push harder on the gas pedal, there is sort of a jolt as if it tries to shift but aborts because something is stuck. I can only get it to downshift by taking my foot off the pedal and then pushing down hard on it again.

Actions Taken:
I had the transmission oil changed 2x, and both times I was told the oil is a little bit dirty but there are no metal filings in the pan.

About a year ago I replaced all my vacuum hoses. Recently I fiddled with the vacuum modulator on the transmission, which seemed to be slightly loose. After both of these things, the transmission shifted very well for about three days and then started a slow decline to the same conditions.

[As I typed, I thought maybe it has something to do with residual vacuum in the vacuum lines that isn't being released as it should be.]

Does anyone have any idea what I should check next?

Shifts are very slow, but if I go very easy on the gas they happen at about the right times.

A transmission shop told me "No problems" with the transmission.

Is there an easy way to check the memory in the ECM?
