Fiat 131 Abarth

Been a long time since I posted on this forum. Taking on this old Esci kit with a few improvements along the way.

Modified the kit belt/pulley assembly:

The kit header is the object above the pulley assembly.

My scratch built header along with a front cross member.

Removed the molded on debris screen from the intakes and drilled them out.

Thank you corrrado. Those grilles look great! Do you know where I can buy them when they become available?

Notched the firewall to allow some setback of the engine.

Re: Fiat 131 Abarth

Building a tarmac spec car and want to lower the suspension. To make room for the exhaust I notched the trunk (boot) floor.

Re: Fiat 131 Abarth

Fabricated the trans-axle support. Fabricated a protection plate for the trans-axle and the front edge of the baffle. The drive shaft is positioned backwards in the photo - it will be installed the correct way.

Re: Fiat 131 Abarth

Really great progress on the chassis AFX Racing! Nice to see this classic kit has a new life in your hands! About the grills, you need to contact V-modeler on fb. I know him, I'll ask about it as well. Keep the kit coming! Which livery you plan for the 131 Abarth?

Re: Fiat 131 Abarth

Thanks Attila. I am doing Andruet's '77 Monte Carlo for the tarmac spec build. I also plan on building another kit to gravel spec.

I have modified the kit wheels to narrow them for the gravel spec. build.

Re: Fiat 131 Abarth

Nice choice! What will be the livery for the gravel spec car and are you planning to change the fenders of it? Gravel spec cars used the original flairs from the "stradale" version which is visibly narrower than the grou 4 cars'. A solution could be that you buy the "Quattroruote 1/24 131 Abarth Stradale and copy the fenders from it. That diecast is very accurate and nice by the way and has some good gravel wheel on it which could be used for gravel rallies like the 1000 Lakes or even for the snowy Monte Carlo.

Re: Fiat 131 Abarth

I'm thinking about Rohrl 1980 San Remo which appears to have used the larger wheel arches. It used different style Cromodora wheels however from all the photos that I have found so far. I have ordered a set of the Decalcas wheels but have not received them yet.

The gravel cars is on the left. I sanded down the fender flares (to narrow them) as much as I could after the photo was taken. I'll post another photo showing the difference I was able to achieve.
