2008 2WD 1500 Dash Gauges Dead

My son went to head to work early this morning, and on startup, none of his dash indicators worked. Fuel Gauge and possibly Temp were floating near mid-range, all others pegged at low end of scale. The transmission gear indicator did not work either. It was running fine, just no dash functions.
He tried using the driver info center, and it did cycle through, showed the odometer reading, but trans temp was three dashes ---
It had been sitting for 2 days, and it has been cold and rainy for the past few days, not sure if that is a factor or not.
He has had the truck for about 6 years, never had this happen before.
Any clues or advice on where to begin will be appreciated, thanks.

Sorry for the long delay in following up on this one. When he left work later that same day, all was back to normal, and has been ever since.
No idea what caused it, could even have been ignition / key switch contacts, truck has around 170,000 miles on it.
