4L60E Issue 00 Silverado z71

I was stopped at stop sign. When I gave truck some gas to go I heard a loud clunk and now the truck will not move in any gear. No issues prior to this. No slipping no burnt fluid smell. Tansmission only has 46,000 mile on it. It's a Jasper reman and unfortunately the warranty is out. Any ideas what may have happened.? Truck has a 4.8 motor and was running flawlessly until now.

No real way to diagnose this from here, may not be the trans., could be the transfer case, get it checked out.

The 4L60 is notorious for just random failures.

Re: 4L60E Issue 00 Silverado z71

Did you get your truck diagnosed? What turned out to be the problem?
My son has a 2008 half-ton with the 4.8 & 4L60E, his is 2wd.
Did about the same thing to him, no warning signs, and we ended up pulling it and rebuilding it. A planetary had destructed, but it was a chain of events that began with a Torrington thrust bearing failure.
Shops are expensive to get these trannies done, (and after going through it, I can understand why). Problem is, you don't know if they truly rebuild them, or just replace whatever component had failed, leaving you ripe for another failure soon. If you insist on getting a really good warranty, it probably means you are getting a full rebuild, not a repaired used trans. Any shop who says they can replace yours for $7-800 or less is probably selling you a used junkyard unit.

Re: 4L60E Issue 00 Silverado z71

There was a shop in the Pittsburgh area that rebuilt these things all the time. They were around $900 plus core. They came with a warranty too. I don't know if they still do it, or even remember their name. I found them when the 4L60E crapped out on my brother's Trailblazer.

Was that recently, or some years back? I would guess that was carry-out price for the trans. I should have been more clear in my comment about price, the figure I mentioned would include the R & R labor and fluid + filter. My son found 1 place that said they would pull his trans, rebuild it, and re-install for $700, with only a 30 day, 1,000 mile warranty. It was on a Craigslist ad, no mention of a shop name. I suppose if a shop was turning a lot of the same trannies, and had 1 or 2 guys doing them almost full-time, they could make money at $900. The problem with fixed pricing, is you likely lose money on a few units, (like my son's, which had a catastrophic failure, and took over $650 in parts for us to completely rebuild it, including output shaft, sun shell, planetary, servo, etc). Add the labor at going rates, probably close to that $900, maybe more. But most units probably just need soft parts - frictions and seals/gaskets, so maybe $2-300 + labor, so on the average they could come out nicely on carry-out rebuilds.
Most reputable trans shops we looked at were around $11-1200 carryout with warranty, and for the full job including remove/replace were over $2K.

Yeah, $900 was carryout price. We R&R'd ourselves.
