Re: ModellingMaster.com - transkits, photo-etched and decals

Phil, I was waiting for you :-)

Thanks for your ideas! You are genuine rally history genius!

If I only had opportunity (e.g. money) I would have made all described kits! The problem, as usual, is lack of money – not in my pocket, but in possible sales. I mean, if we make Peugeot 504 Coupé rally, how many pieces will be bought? If they are less than 30 sold pieces – we are broke on this model. Of course it we are talking about developing a kit from scratch using rapid prototyping and this stuff. If there is die-cast models which can be a boost start – then we need to sell much less pieces to cover our investments.

Re: ModellingMaster.com - transkits, photo-etched and decals

I know the problem, of course, and the list isn't inevitably to be taken as "models to do" but more as a personal top wish-list.
Of course 3D development can only be done for best sellers.

There must be some ideas to consider though.

The GT Turbo can be done from a Italieri/Esci Renault 5 alpine

The 504 can be done from a Welly die-cast base. maybe the 504 berline could offer more opportunities (lot of liveries) but the coupé version would be great.

There is a die-cast for the Visa 1000 Pistes but it's very rare...

also there is a die-cast for the 104.

I don't know any base for the Samba Gr. B...
same for 309 GTi but this one would be a good seller I think as there isn't any version and even the 1/43 scale doesn't offer much.

I think that the best sales opportunity is the 205 T16 Evo2 and probably the Visa 1000 Pistes too.

That said I don't really know what nowadays a good sellers is for a multimedia kit... 100 ? 150 ? 200 ?

Re: ModellingMaster.com - transkits, photo-etched and decals

Something I can add...
Maybe a subscribing or preorder ask to fans can let you know if there is enough opportunities to develop a model or not.
problem is not to base consideration only from one or two forums contacts...
I'm not rich enough to ask 25 for myself alone but... maybe... if that helps... two or three...!

Re: ModellingMaster.com - transkits, photo-etched and decals

I will look at die-cast models of these cars. I have Mercedes 230SL die-cast which I would like to make a model-kit — Pagoda is one of my favourite Mercs.

By the way, what do you think about Mercedes Renntransporter? I plan to build this truck for my collection of Silver Arrows :-)

Re: ModellingMaster.com - transkits, photo-etched and decals

I think that the Mercedes Renntransporter could be great, but 1/24 scale would make it be expensive and for a certain kind of buyers only.
Personaly as you know I'm almost only interested in rally and dakar so I cannot really a perfect advicer for this model.

BTW I forgot to mention in the rally theme the Porsche 911 SC RS Gr.B and its Dakar derivative (made by Roman for his personal collection). there is some good base.

If you need to get a welly Peugeot 504 you may find some on EBay. I may be able to find some for cheap price at september eastern France big modeling event.
I have two, one already "killed" trying to modify it into pickup version, and the other untouched to have at least one rally livery (I think the Aseptogyl pink, red and white version driven by the famous french ladies crew)

the Visa was made by hotwheels and is given as 1/25, it's depicting the "evo 1" of the Visa, not the 1000pistes but for some expert builders as you or Roman it shouldn't be a big problem
I'm targeting one on EBay, this may use... once

forgot... I think that revell recently re-released the pagode mercedes, at least in a lot containing SLS and 230 SL. I saw it in a toy store a few months ago.

Re: ModellingMaster.com - transkits, photo-etched and decals

Hi again guys!

Talking about suggestions, here are mine. I STRONGLY believe that any Kit Car from the 90's would be a good selling model. And they are the big forgotten rally cars in the modeling world. It's such a shame because they are so beautyful cars they where so popular back then. And they where even better on tarmac than WRC cars.

I'm talking about full detailed kits:

- Peugeot 306 Maxi
- Citroen Xsara Kit Car
- Renault Megane Maxi
- Seat Ibiza Kit Car
- Peugeot 106 Maxi
And de list goes on...

Lets not forget what ScuderiaItalia guys did with his Renault Clio Maxi. The kits where sold in couple of months arround the world and now they are true jewels.

And last but not least, I'm also looking forward to this BMW M3 E30 that you mentioned early.

Cheers and long life to ModelingMaster!!

Re: ModellingMaster.com - transkits, photo-etched and decals

Thanks Snailart! Romik505 is currently in works on BMW E30 :-)

Phil, you are right that Renntransporter won't be cheap, but it's worth it. Unfortunately Revell didn't manufacture Pagoda – there was a die-cast model by Quatroruotte which i've purchased on Ebay several years ago.

Museum Collection did it in 1/24 some years ago.
Only few copies, very hard to find.

Re: ModellingMaster.com - transkits, photo-etched and decals

Be careful with future projects: there are as many opinions as there are modelers.
When I examine the Revell AG poll they recently published on their website, one have to admit that rally cars are way behind military and sci-fi in terms of general interest. Or maybe the results were biased by clever guys who know how to vote one thousand times at once...

Personnally I would love to own every rally car ever seen but if I was the chief of a small russian kit company I would never follow this kind of crazy idea

Btw, M3 E30 is excellent news, although I will have to rob a bank to buy at least 10 of them...

Chris, we are too few to have a chief to manage us :-) Romik505 is the most experienced and talented among us of course.

Rally is cool. We will make something in this topic – what do you think about Lada Niva? It was racing in Dakar :-)

To complete a nice 205T16 Evo 2, a Dakar 205 GR (long wheel base) will be great !!

Re: ModellingMaster.com - transkits, photo-etched and decals

I'd definitely be in for a 205 T16 E2, as well as the GR version. (Be carful the 87 and 88-90 cars are different.)

I think I've mentioned it before but what about an Audi Quattro A1 with the BBS wheels.

I also like the idea of the Visa but why just the 1000 Pistes, what about the other group b ones?
The Trophee, Chrono and the GT Tonic?

Re: ModellingMaster.com - transkits, photo-etched and decals

If I can ... so for myself:

in 1/24

Alfa Romeo GTV 6
Volvo 240
Skoda 130LR (1983-1988)
Skoda 130RS (the end of the 70 's.)
Peugeot 106 Maxi

a good tip is to Lada Niva (POCH - Dakar rallye)

and
the races on the circuit

Rover Vitesse 3500
