1994 Landcruiser Intermittent A/C problem

I have an intermittent problem with the A/C in my 94 LC.

Most of the time it blows ICE cold. Sometimes when it gets pretty hot outside or you idle for an extended period of time, the AC starts blowing hot and will not get cold again. The next time it is driven, the AC will be ICE cold again, so I am certain it is not losing freon.

Anybody have a clue what would cause it to intermittently quit working, especially when it gets really hot outside? The compressor appears to be engaged even when it's blowing hot. You can turn the A/C off and on and the compressor will disengage/engage but the air will still be blowing hot.

Also, it seems to blow hot more often when the temp controls are put on recirculate. If it is left in the fresh air position, it does not seem to do it as often.

I had a similar problem with my LC AC. Off course my wife is driving the car and she had never noticed the engine temperature is going to roof.
Anyhow, There was no coolant in the radiator and end up blowing the head cylindar. Check the engine temperature when the AC shut offs. It must be at high.....Also don't forget to check the radiator coolant. Good luck
