Error Code P0401 (Insufficient EGR gas recirculation)
Hello all,
A friend of mine drives a 1999 Plymouth Voyager. Recently, she had a check engine light come on and when I diagnosed it, it came up with an error code of P0401. I've been doing some research on the internet about this code and from everything I've read, it seems to point to a faulty EGR valve. My questions are (as I'm not familiar with this vehicle), can this valve be cleaned, where is it located, and what is the average cost of replacement? Is this a common problem with these vehicles? Thanks for your help in advance. Great site by the way! |

It could be more helpful to know what engine you have.
I have '98 with the 3.3L and the EGR valve on mine went out about 55,000 miles. 1)cleaning -- I suppose you could tap on it w/ rubber mallet and see if any "crud" comes out, but I don't think they're cleanable. I went to the autoparts store and bought a new one. 2)location -- assuming you have the 3.3L or 3.8L engine. Looking strait on at the engine. (Like you popped the hood and are looking at the engine). It on the right-hand side in the back corner. It's offset from the intake manifold. |

Re: Error Code P0401 (Insufficient EGR gas recirculation)
If you don't know where the exhuast gas recurculation valve is,how in hell did you even hook the scan equiptment up?How did you even get it to interface with the PCM?Leave the van alone!
