2002 Protege 5 starting problem

I have a 2002 Protege5 that was bought used from a dealer back in April. A couple of weeks ago the car started having problems starting. It will start up first time trying, but after, if the car is shut off it will not turn over. Dash lights, radio etc still work, but try to start an there is nothing, no clicking, just silence. Put the car in neutral, and it fires right up. The only way it will start is in neutral. Didn't see any posts with the same problem. Anybody have similar issues,or know what's up? Thanks in advance for any help!

Suspect neutral safety switch/range selector. Probably try google that . I know on 626s the range selector is adjustable.
