Question Question regarding removal of Transmission- Cutlass Ciera

Has anyone done this on a 94 Cutlass Ciera, VIN M 3.1L V6 or same engine in another GM vehicle? Well we completely disassembled a 92 Cutlass Ciera engine once to fix some VERY serious problems and you'd have had to pull that engine out to get to that transmission, too. However, someone mentioned that you don't have to remove the hood and take out the engine on this one. Any thoughts on that? I checked alldata and the procedures for removing and installing a rebuilt transmission don't specifically say that you don't have to hoist that engine out. One of the steps involved is supporting the front end with jack stands, basically removing a few parts, removing some bolts here and there and then removal of the torque converter and transmission. It says nothing about the actual engine itself, like if you don't need it completely out to remove the transmission and converter.

Has anyone done this? I know we're quite capable of removing it and, if necessary, we can get that done the way we think is right but if that is true then it will really REALLY cut down on the amount of time this takes us. Just checking!

Oh, and yeah I haven't completely solved that transmission problem. I fixed the vibrating/grinding on acceleration but it is still slipping. I put some Lucas Oil Trans Fix stuff in there last night for good measure, since we wouldn't be getting to the removal of the transmission at least until this weekend anyways. Boy that stuff is thick as molasses!

Re: Question regarding removal of Transmission

Engine stays put but must be supported with a cross strut tower brace/support. Subframe is removed to drop the the trans.

Fantastic, that is MUCH easier than I figured. Thanks.
