If I'm not mistaken the L28 is a inline 6. Correct? If so I bet it's heaver than a VG30DE engine and if this is correct then the VH45DE is 100lbs lighter than a VG30DE engine. The VH45 well fit into all the Z's.

Hodo, I haven't even had a chance to look at it. getting ready to race this coming weekend.

Re: 300zx swap to 450zxtt

DAMN..... I used to got to the spring nationals religously when I lived in Houston. Never did get a car ready to run in time for it personally. But I did participate in the Pontiac Superbowl at Baytown earlier in 2004. I was on a team of freinds we had a 79 mustang ( i think it was a 79.... it was a Fox body Notchback), I am tring to remember our class, I think it was street... or something like it, Basicaly bracket racing, we dialed in at 13.5 and ran 13.51, 13.9, and a redlight loss (13.4) the car was solid. The engine blew the next weekend during a test and tune session. Had to get a new set of heads and gaskets. We think the water pump seized sometime during the day..... not sure though. I didnt take the engine apart. I was pissed becuase I worked on the Heads intake, and carb, and that meant I was doing a WHOLE lotta taking crap off and checking to see what was still good and what was junk.

Depending on the transmission you use, I'd recommend the standard TT automatic which the VH45DE use's, the engine, transmission, wiring harness and ECU is $1,495
Al would a manual transmission hold that much horsepower?

The manual Z32 transmission is pretty strong. The Z automatic built up with a SAW is much stronger and shifts like a standard only no clutch, so very little shock on the drive train.
BBZ it all depends on what you want to do. If serious racing is on youre list, I would consider the automatic.

How much does the L28 weigh? It's iron block, right? The RB-series is pretty similar, and weighs somewhere in the 700lb range.

A VH is aluminum, and should be around 500lb or so.

There's pictures of that blue 240Z with a VH or a VK twin turbo setup floating around the 'Net. Looks like the V8 fit okay. Doubtful the 280 is any different.

The VH45DE weight 510lbs with accessorys, and the VK45DE is 505lbs. The VH fit in the Z32 similar as the VG30DE engine. It's a major plus as you lose about 100lbs front end weight on the Z32.
