2003 V6 5 speed
It seems like you can never get a smooth shift in to any gear. Sometimes if the rpm and speed are matched up perfect it will shift OK. Most of the time you feel a bunp or something, not necessary gear teeth grinding but a bump. It has been like this since it was new, I now have 40,000 miles on it. Does anyone else have this issue?

no, i havent tried taking it to the dealer, but im not bothered with the bump and dont feel that its a big issue. i actually thought the problem was the way i shift because i am, in fact, able to make every shift smooth if i try.

Re: 2003 V6 5 speed
I bought a 2004 Frontier V6 5speed 4x4 last week. I have an appointment to take it back to the dealer for just about the same problem. It has a rather clunky feel to the shift AND there is a metal-on-metal rattle if you're coasting in gear with the clutch pedel pushed in. I'm afraid the dealer is going to pull a "oh, that's nothing to worry about." I feel it's a brand new truck, there should be no rattles at all. I can only imagine how bad the rattle will be when I take it off-road. And it doesn't feel like a loose heat shield... it actually feels like it's inside the gearbox or somewhere between the gearbox and the shift lever, since you can feel the rattle in the stick itself.

Re: 2003 V6 5 speed
Just curious...why would you be coasting in gear with the clutch pushed in

Re: 2003 V6 5 speed
Here's a perfect example... there's this little bar in the woods of the poconos where I hang out sometimes. This little place has a stone parking lot and driveway. As you come in the entrance of the driveway you begin a fairly steep downgrade to the parking spots on this stone driveway. So as I come in I am in 2nd gear but as I reach the downgrade I just press in the clutch and coast to the parking spots (while leaving the stick positioned in 2nd gear). I sware I thought the gearbox was just going to drop right out. I could never take her off-roading with all that clanking going on. I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow. I hope they can fix it because at this point I am sorry I ever bought the thing.
