"#4 cylinder misfire"?
I overheated my truck when the heater bypass hose broke on me while going to work one morning, and warped the head. Truck was down on power, lousy gas mileage etc. Replaced the head with a rebuilt one and performance improved on acceleration, but getting a strong miss when not under load and just cruising. Service engine light comes on and Autozone check tells me it is a "#4 cylinder misfire". Compression on all cylinders check out good. Put in new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, but still getting same code. Swapped #3,#4 injectors, but still get same code. Any ideas what might be causing this?
Stock '97 KA24E w/ auto tranny. 124K miles.

moved to truck forums with re-direct.
i know you probably posted it here because there's no traffic in the truck forum...but i'll leave a re-direct so if anyone from 240SX feels like answering it for you, they can.

Yeah, I posted it on the 240SX forum because I knew that the '89-'90 shared the same KA24E engine as mine. The truck (Frontier) forum is usually for the KA24DE motors, and yes, there is not much traffic there (as you can see by the number of replies I've gotten). I managed to find an answer to my problem anyway, so I guess this forum was no help at all. Thanks anyway. Maybe you should have a forum called "KA24E", eh?

Sam, I ended up taking it down to the Nissan dealership, and as soon as I described the problem, the service manager said it was buildup in my intake manifold. Said it was quite common with this model, with that many miles. I went ahead and had them do the professional cleaning, which consisted of them running the engine on a special type of cleaner fed directly into the intake. They then pulled out the little plugs on the intake runners, and using a proper bore "pipe cleaner" on a drill, scrubbed out any stubborn residue that might still be there. I guess with the right bit, this could just about have been a polish job !! Anyway, it cured the problem for sure, and the performance increase on the truck was very noticable. It cost me $225 for them to do it, but was well worth it considering the pain in the neck it would be for me to try it myself. Hope this helps.
Rob.
