2001 I30 stopping at idle

Hi,

2001 I30 with 187k miles was running fine until 2-3 days ago when I started and it stopped in about 1/2 mile and then not starting unless I press the accelerator and turn key at same time but stop immediately if i remove foot from accelerator, if i quickly try to move to D and drive then it stops again ~ 1/2 mile. Tow it to mechanic and he feels it most likely be MAF or IAC issue but he can't test as he don't have way to check it. I have a friend who thinks it might be a bad fuel filter. There is no check engine light. Mechanic increased the idle as temporary fix and I am able to drive it back home. Did anyone else had similar issue as I am not comfortable driving it as may break down again and dealer may charge lot of money to debug and fix the issue.

Thanks

IAC was my first thought too, find a mechanic who can test it and look into that.
