Viper Exhaust
Does anybody know why it is so hard to get a viper to sound good?

Re: Viper Exhaust
COchevySS refer to post Viper engine firing order - 2 at once.... I explained in that thread that a 10 cylinder car with sidepipes.. you only hear 5 cylinders, and so it sounds like a UPS truck. If you listen to a GTS or the later (2nd generations) RT/10's they don't have sidepipes, but rather dual exhaust that comes out the rear. Ask Viper_10... he'll tell you how sweet it sounds... I like the borla sound the best. Really lets the 10 go from a purr to a growl to a cowering snarl. It was to fix the sound problems, and then also the heat problems (the heat shroud wasn't effective enough and created a lot of heat next to the door panel next to your leg when the car was driven hard or for long periods of time) "Why go back to sidepipes on the SRT-10?" you are probably thinking. The techies for the viper came up with a great idea. The pipes from the headers go into the cat and silencers (respectively) and then do something that's never been seen on any other car... They travel along the undercarriage of the car... horizontally! The pipes are close together, and actually cross in the center creating an x to create matching length pipes and equal backpressure. With the pipes traveling along side each other the sounds of the 2 sides are actually mixed. That way you hear all 10 cylinders on both sides. Also technology has improved greatly and the insulation material has gotten a lot better. The sidepipes still heat up the cockpit, but not nearly as much as on the concept srt-10's and the generation 1 rt/10's. Good question though.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha @ thermometer, country music rulz, and cheezypuff. that guy must prefer the sound of a fat lady farting over a well designed engine, oh yea, such as the Viper's. Like the first time anyone came out with a car it was absolutly perfect??
