Re: The Definitive McLaren F1 Scale Model List.

Meko models' Day Off #15 is quite nice but very pricey for scale and features. For a smaller price I have seen a custom UT of the same real car and still would prefer the UT as it has then opening doors and engine lid. Anyway I would prefer to see car this (hand) made in 1/43 instead of 1/18 (as I try to avoid them due space they require) and not the "Day Off" but the real Davidoff as seen e.g. on A1-Ring 1997.

There are also the other two plain body Mekos (orange 27R and the grey one). Still I would prefer a modified UT over them.

The hi-res image of the rear open on that Fline GTR shows better that they tried to imitate the LM's exhaust system, not any real GTR's. Even the road converted ones that I've seen hi-res images (13R, 16R) does not have them that way.

Also on your images it looks much better than on those images that the sellers offer. And definitely that one is made to imitate the LMs but with the air vent also on left side and some other earlier mentioned flaws. The current ones on eBay in different colors seems to have the body of GTR'96 cars.

Re: The Definitive McLaren F1 Scale Model List.

Just a word of defence for the Fline Mclaren i bought recently.I think it is the best Mclaren i have, whichever one it is supposed to be copying LM/GTR.
To get such a detailed model for that price & quality is amazing when you see how much MR open models go for.I don't really look at every detail,i just know an orange mac is my favourite car.It is easily equal if not better than my Autobarn GTR,S,& looks great on display next to an orange Caparo t1 & orange Lamborghini lp670 sv.
It made my Christmas!

I don't like that the car doesn't resemble anything 'real' from a livery perspective, but otherwise it is definitely a nice creation!

Needs a 'Davidoff' Monza decal set I think.

Yes I noticed it too. The "extra" engine is a nice feature and overall nice presentation of them both.

Sadly the seller has very grainy photos of it. I'm not sure if it is the same base mold as the ModelWorkShop 1/12's or not, those images have been taken from such angles that it isn't easy to spot the similarities/differences.

The MWS LM/GTR's are overall quite nice but the roof section is a bit too flat compared to real ones; makes the edges between door windows and roof too sharp/bulky. Also the rear extends awkwardly on the models. Amalgam got the pattern much better on their 1/8 but can't really justify its costs to buy one. Sadly they are all curb sides for that size (Amalgam has only the opening engine lid), so I would like to see Minichamps or AutoArt doing a fully featured "open & close" of the LM/GTRs like the Minichamps 1/12 road cars, and also to a more reasonable price.

I hope they would do other versions as I'm not so much interested of the fantasy versions like the matte/flat black versions; why can't they then do the 01R as it was in the Silverstone tests before Le Mans 1995 with only the white "McLaren GTR" wind screen banner and otherwise plain black/grey. Also same goes for the 19R, only UT (named incorrectly "street GTR" maybe to refer 54GT?) has it in gloss black as the original Barcelona 1997 test car (but without the few Michelin/BMW decals) and others have made it incorrectly in that matte/flat black.

Yes, that's true for the origins. Also had originally the '95 side skirts.

The roof scoop was added around mid 1996, and other GTRs that raced had it added for LM'96. If you have the photos in which 10R wears the #10 it already has the roof scoop and the '96 side skirts. The plain livery version is mostly known as Nick Mason has had it till he re-liveried it back to the GTR'96 presentation livery. Also during that the roll cage was deleted, but IXO seems to think that it never had it. So if I want the plain livery version, I want it with the roof scoop, like it was from December 1999 to 2009 re-livery.

Sadly the base have incorrectly the chassis numbers as they were vice versa, but if it annoys too much maybe you can put a sticker on them and write the correct ones over.

Re: The Definitive McLaren F1 Scale Model List.

Doc, I only need an allen key and a small screwdriver - allen key to take off the base, screwdriver to undo the holding screw underneath the base to swap them over.....

Does anyone know of the Lark twin set ABL006 and Marlboro twin set ABL005 for sale anywhere.....??
