A lot of people will suggest GMPartsDirect.Com. They have good prices compared to the regular dealers but make up for it in higher shipping charges. I had a part on backorder for 3 weeks so I was very displeased with them. Locally I have an AC Delco authorized parts dealer who is well below dealer. I don't know if you have one in your area. I've seen OEM 02 sensors on Ebay for a reasonable buy it now cost.

My suggestion to contact Richtazz@automotiveforums.com. He is one of the regulars on the GP forum you can trust and an ASE Certified Parts Specialist who works for a GM parts distributor in Flint, MI. His prices are similar to GMPartsDirect but at reasonable shipping/handling.

Advance Auto Parts carries almost all OEM parts like that. If you dont have one near you nor an AC Delco dealer (such as Nu Way Auto Parts) then I agree with bnaylor in that eBay is a great place to look.

Re: o2 sensor and catalytic converter where to buy?

Ebay is a cheap place to get the ACDelco O2's.I picked the front O2 up for 35 bucks VS stealer wanting almost 130 bucks.

You didnt say what year of Gp you have ?

Ebay also has cat converter's for around 50/60 bucks that flow better then stock.

Re: o2 sensor and catalytic converter where to buy?

Does the car not pass emissions testing? You might want to do a bit more diagnostic work before throwing a couple hundred bucks in parts at the car. Not saying you haven't done testing but just in case...

Measuring the static pressure at the pre-cat O2 sensor port is a good way to determine how much restriction the cat is putting on the exhaust flow. The O2 sensors are more of a plug and play item that you can't do much testing on but if you have an OBDII scan tool you can at least watch the output of the sensor and see if it's within reason.

Actually what the dealer mentioned covers a wide range of GM cars from 2001 to 2002 primarily with the 3.4 and 3.8L engines but I believe that they are covering a lot of GM cars with the 3.1 too. However, it is not classified as a recall by GM. I have a copy of this letter sitting in the glove box of my '01 Regal GS. I am waiting for the CAT convertor to go bad. The local Buick dealer will not change out my CAT until a SES light comes on or I have signs the CAT may be bad. Just wanted to clarify the issue. See notice letter below:

THIS IS NOT A RECALL This is a special policy that raises warranty coverages on the converter in case you experience a failure.

************************************************** ****

Dear General Motors Customer:

As the owner of a 2001-02 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo; Pontiac Grand Prix; or Buick Regal model vehicle, equipped with a 3.4L or 3.8L V6 engine, your satisfaction with our product is very important to us.

This letter is intended to make you aware that some 2001-02 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo; Pontiac Grand Prix; and Buick Regal model vehicles, equipped with a 3.4L or 3.8L V6 engine, may have a condition where the catalytic converter is replaced due to complaints of lack of power or illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). This may be due to the front endcone insulation from the catalytic converter breaking away and blocking the front of the first catalyst brick and preventing the free flow of exhaust gas through the converter.

This is not a recall. Do not take your vehicle to your GM dealer as a result of this letter unless you believe that your vehicle has the condition as described above.

What We Have Done
General Motors is providing owners with additional protection for the Catalytic Converter. If this condition occurs on your 2001-02 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo; Pontiac Grand Prix; or Buick Regal model vehicle, equipped with a 3.4L or 3.8L V6 engine, within 10 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 120,000 miles (190,000 km), whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge .

What You Should Do
Repairs and adjustments qualifying under this special coverage must be performed by a General Motors dealer. You may want to call the service department at your dealer to find out how long they will need to have your vehicle so that you may schedule the appointment at a time that is convenient for you. This will also allow your dealer to order parts if they are not already in stock. Keep this letter with your other important glove box literature for future reference.
