Question AC Question--fixed computer prob. now to next prob.

Hello,
I am still working on this bucket of bolts I call bertha, my 1990 ford econoline. The van seems to be running efficiently now that the transmission has been rebuilt and the computer replace. Last 2 things: fix air conditioner and then replace valve cover gaskets.

Now I hope someone can help me with my a/c problem. The deal is the van has dual a/c. I recharged the system with a r134a retrofit kit and the rear air worked great! The problem was that the front a/c did not cool off very well (was not as hot as on vent, but not cold either). The rear works much better than the front a/c. The other problem is that the compressor makes a whining or whirring noise. The higher the RPMs, the louder the noise.

Could the poor front a/c performance be related to this problem? Could it be the drier causing the thing to clog or something? My main question is what could cause these problems. I do know that the low pressure switch is bad. I think that this could indicate a bad drier as well, but I'm no a/c tech. Any help appreciated!!!

Do you have a/c gauges? If so put them on and give me the readings. If the pressure switch is bad it will either stay on all the time or not come on at all.

I took it to the shop, put on a new compressor, vacuumed it down and recharged (with new orifice and dryer as well). Seems to work much better now. gets very cold even with the r134a. Thanks for the help gbic1. I appreciate your offer to help, but I just didn't have the gauges. The pressures were as followed when they put the freon in: low: 45 psi and high: 235 psi

Re: AC Question--fixed computer prob. now to next prob.

My 2008 Econoline has an issue whenever I accelerate. Air conditioning switches from the dash vents to the defrost vents. When I decelerate, it goes back to the dash vents (normal). Fan speed doesn't matter. Any ideas? Are the dampers operated by a vacuum line?
