Re: How To: HVAC Blower fan only works on 3, 4 & 5

I bought a new resistor at Autozone for $20. With the instructions here, the fix was pretty easy. Using the universal adapter made getting at the far screw a breeze. The only bit of frustration I had was getting the hose back into the proper spot in the cover, when putting the cover back on. The control module kept falling off. But after 5 mins of cursing at it, I got it. Dealer quoted $200 to fix. It's a relatively easy DIY project.

Re: How To: HVAC Blower fan only works on 3, 4 & 5

I have this problem with my 2000 Malibu, and 2000 Grand Am. Now, on the Grand Am, 3 and 4 just went out. So, all that works is just 5! I am going to do this so, on both cars.

changed the resistor on the grand am last night, and took about 15 minutes. well, if you don't count the time it took to figure out how to get the back screw out!

My fiance has an 03 with this problem. Anyone know if the location is the same? Also, does anyone have diagrams or pictures of the process?

Thanks

OK stupid question, I have an 01 Impala only slowest and fastest speed work. Do the Impala's have the same issues?

I do not have any experience with the Malibu, so I could not say for sure, but knowing Chevy and their willingness to reuse parts, I do not doubt it. I do not think it souns the same though.

You could try to find the resistor (I don't even know if it is in the same spot) and look at it. If it is a green Printed Circuit Board, that looks shorted out, then it needs to be replaced.

Sorry, this probably does not help.
