Olds Engine Swap

I bought a 71 Cutlass a year ago,

And I beat on the rocket 350 .

Well I'm about to throw a rod, So I'm looking for a new Engine.
Cant seem to find a rocket 350 or a 455.

If I'm not mistaken the pontiac 403 are oldsmobile but they are smog motors and I'd need a valve job, cam heads so on so forth...

Cutlass is a heavy A frame unibody not like a pinch welded Nova. I'm looking for torque...lots of Torque

I'm not above throwing a chevy engine in either...anyone have experience doing this or have any suggestions please let me know

Re: Olds Engine Swap

Welcome to AF. 400 or 455 Olds number one choice for your needs. The 403 was a stone by most standards.

Re: Olds Engine Swap

Thier are other Rocket motors out there.

In the 60's thier was a 330(i think thats it) and a 425 Rocket.
I have a 66' 425 rocket(not 4 sale), usualy they came in the large Cutlass's , vista's, dynamic- delta and jetstar 88's. And thiers probly more out there I'm forgeting...

Max is right about the 403, it's not a good motor at all.

If it was me, I'd rebuild the 350 Rocket, probly be worth it in the long run and you can get some great HP/Torq out of it with a little work IMO.
Not realy that expensive if you do the assembly work your self.

Good Hunting!

Re: Olds Engine Swap

I have a 72 Cutlass Supreme with a Rocket 455.....Strong engine....dude I bought it from had it bored .40 over, plus a few other things. Runs like a scalded dog....Stick with Olds. Either 350 or 455.

Re: Olds Engine Swap

Wellcome to AF Redline442 !!

Please look at the post dates before posting in outdated threads. Over three months is considered old.

On the matter of the 350 Olds motors. Thier is a Big difference in the standard 350 Olds and a 350 Olds Rocket.
Either way Olds was a great line and GM are fools for dropping it.
