Want to know whats wrong with your truck?
So would a lot of other people. People w/ similar symptoms & the people who take the time to offer their experience, knowledge, suggestions & if nothing else, moral support and a shoulder to cry on. For the sake of the forum and all who participate, I would like to suggest that those seeking answers & knowledge through the posting of threads for their particular problems, kindly take the time to let everyone know what was eventually determined to be the cause. Everybody wins! Otherwise, it's like watching a show with a "To be continued..." at the end of an episode, and then the series gets canceled. Personally it takes all the fun out of troubleshooting & I'm guessing others feel the same. Comments welcome!

Re: Want to know whats wrong with your truck?
Howdy,
Workin' on my 1999 F-150 and replaced the brushes in the alternator... now I can't figure out how to get the belt tensioner to slack off... all rigs I have worked on in the past that had a tensioner also had a place to attach a 1/2" drive breaker bar to turn and relieve the tension... I have scoured over it and can't figure it out... can someone please help? Its the 4.2L engine |

Re: Want to know whats wrong with your truck?
It may just have a 15 or 16mm bolt that moves it.

This site is like a giant reference and we all add our knowledge to it's base. Whether a member has a problem now or in the future they can use the search function to look for older threads that may address their problem. It wouldn't do them any good to find a thread that might offer a solution only to get there and find there are no responses as the original poster asked people to send them the info. Openly discussing fixes or solutions in these threads open multiple ways of dealing with the problem. Perhaps one solution may work for one, but another solution may work for another.

Re: Want to know whats wrong with your truck?
Thank You. Yes that was what it was... I joined an online forum and paid $5 for an answer... only problem was they instructed to turn it clockwise and when I did... the bolt broke! It turns out the bolt has a stop on it so if you turn it counter-clockwise it will lock after a few turns and allow you to rotate the tension pulley pretty easily. I was able to remove the assembly and hickerbilly a new bolt with a stop and got it all back together and its on the road.
So much for payin' for tech advise expecting a right answer. Thanks for your time! |
