hcs pump
Hi my little brother has a 02 ls v8 and has taken it to the lincoln repair shop because it was overheating after replacing a sensor with no luck and it's not giving engine codes. So now they want to replace the hcs pump or hydraulic cooling system pump grand total of 2000 dollars.so is that a fancy term for water pump?or something else?if it does exsist how much is one worth?he was told he needs the fan assembly as well .greatful for some insight thanks in advance. did a search on hcs and nothing

Re: hcs pump
Welcome to the forum. This car uses a hydraulic cooling fan (not directly belt driven, not electric) and likewise, incorporates a separate hydraulic pump for the cooling fan. I suspect the shop is suggesting that both are damaged, which may not be unreasonable if debris was introduced to the system. I'm actually quite surprised they'll do both the fan and the pump for $2000, but I haven't read of anyone else needing either of these replaced and therefore, I can't say this price compares to what others have paid or if it's likely the problem. I'm not a professional in the automotive industry, and the techs at the Lincoln shop may have seen these fail before.
