2010 equinox abs codes c0035 and c0040
Hard to believe both right front and left front codes could be set- only takes one to light up the system abs light. But what I found out is that the driver had been driving for several months with abs light on- so in time, one side failed, then the other.. But here is the catch-- 2010 was first year for magnetic ring sensor detection mounted on rear of each front wheel hub- and what I found after I tore into it-(to clean corrosion out of notches I thought) was that the ring is brittle and had broken off in pieces- leaving only a small semi circle in place. So, once I replaced the left side- I was able to see that code stay away, and I could shine a light onto rear of right side and see that that ring was also incomplete and broken. The only fix is new wheel hubs ($118 at Autozone) that I know of- but this fixed the abs light, the red brake light, and the traction control light-as well as the abs activation at low speed-- now that the vehicle knows what speed the wheels are turning. Had to write this up, so others can know how easy it is to fix-- I had replaced the wheel sensors first- but that did not help obviously...

Re: 2010 equinox abs codes c0035 and c0040
I was surprised how easy they were to change- toughest part was to separate the hub from the mount- but a chisel and a 10 lb hammer made quick work of it.
I would have thought that if it happened on both front and right on this vehicle, that I would have seen a whole lot more on it when googling the codes- but perhaps it is still early in the failure mode (it is a 2010) and it was the first year for the glued on magnetic ring design. I spent about 2 hours internet time researching this and never read anything about the ring design-everything in prior model years is internal to wheel hub (has wire emitting from hub) so maybe this is "the tip of the ice burg." Just looked it up- same part number is used up to and through 2016 model year- so be on the look-out for more to fail in this manner- this might be big...
