20" Challenge wheels...coming soon
I was sent this photo today from Scale Production; these 20" monolithic Challenge wheels are nearly ready for production. He's adjusting the master so the front/rear offset look correct (rear spokes are slightly flatter than front).
Can't wait..I've been waiting for the proper 20" diameter Challenge wheels ever since the kits came out and only came w/ pentagram wheels

@Mike: is this the wax prototyping you mentioned in past? Looks wonderful. I think I need an address.....
Bravo! Too bad they didn't used those BBS riding the Panamerican.... I must digest those horrible pentagrams...

Never heard of a wax machine, but the wheels are looking great!
Seems like i could stop working on my own challenge wheel.

with all due respect to you and your work... no offense, but I honestly think that I'll go for SP's wheels. They seem to be a lot more acurate and crisp. Yours somehow look a bit soft, especially around the center. Coming to speak of that... I just noticed that the SP wheels do not have a center cap. Will this be filled with a kit part or will they offer a matching cap? Mike, please enlighten me and the other readers! How much are they going to cost? Cheers |

Re: 20" Challenge wheels...coming soon
I think both sets look good, and both sets may or may not have their trade-offs. Ioan's wheels are more accurately sized and will include the correct tires, but also include a detail missing from Scale Production set (at least from what I can tell). That detail happens to be a small lip along the base of the rim at the bottom of the smaller triangle (see red box in photo).
However, the Scale Production wheel does include the slightly thicker rear spokes. (see blue boxes in photo). Both sets look great to me, but I am partial to Ioan and have three sets on order. I'll buy a Scale Production set too, as I have plenty of Ferraris to put these gorgeous wheels on. Both have put a lot of effort into these wheels and I'm glad we have them now! Why do model manufacturers typically give us crappy wheels (I can think of Tamiya's Z3 as a notorious example)?! |

For me it was more about the challenge (no pun intended) of making a set of tires that have the correct dimensions and thread for the Pirelli PZero's used by Ferrari on these rims. And BTW Quote:
See for yourself: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/sho...#post138790755 Anyway as I said I only did a very small run of them for those who were interested for quite a long time and that will be it. I just posted here to prove that the 20" Challenge wheels were already done in 1/24th scale before. I'm not into making money out of my modeler work, I'm just having fun making new parts. |

Re: 20" Challenge wheels...coming soon
In armour and aircraft modelling they call it "rivet counting" so what's the automotive strain..."spoke counting"?
j/k guys - I admire everyone's enthusiasm and efforts here

Re: 20" Challenge wheels...coming soon
20 inch BBS Challenge wheels are almost as important as a new 1/24 car kit!

Re: 20" Challenge wheels...coming soon
Hi jano,
I must apologize to you. I didn't know that your wheels are home-made small quantity run DIYs. Thought you have a business and sell them professionally. Knowing that now I salute you to what you achieved. Much respect! Greetz |

Re: 20" Challenge wheels...coming soon
I gotta say that both wheels look good. My point of view is you guys are both from europe, so shipping to the states is a killer.
Hey Mike, I've noticed that the 19" bbs lm are all gone. Is there another batch going to be made, im sure theres a market for them. Plus i never ordered mine and wanted a few sets. |
