Research for The New AMC

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Forum:

My name is Bill. I've been an avid AMC enthusiast since I was a little boy. The vehicles produced by American Motors always intrigued me. Now, as an adult, I'm doing some research to see just how many people would like to see a new line of AMC vehicles being produced.

In our state of economic crisis, the government is handing out bailouts left and right. And, of course, the automotive industry is in line with their hand out, wanting money from the feds to help pay for their mismanagement, and lack of foresight. And, while the government is helping them out to some extent, they have also hinted that they would be willing to help a start-up automotive manufacturer get into the business, especially if they would aggressively research and implement new types of fuel, new safety features, and new methods of production.

I am working on a project to resurrect the now-dead name of AMC. It's mostly research at this stage, but this is only the start. My question to all of you here in the forum is this: How many of you would be interested in seeing a new line-up of fuel efficient, affordably priced, AMERICAN-BUILT from AMERICAN PARTS vehicles on the road with the AMC logo on the hood? All sounds great in theory, but, isn't that what Saturn set out to be?

These days there is an entire generation of car buyers for whom AMC is a movie-theater chain.

For solid marketing reasons, the move is to eliminate surplus brand names, not add them.
If GM or Ford are going to build new American-made fuel-efficient cars, it will be done under an existing brand name. It takes far too much money to develop a new brand in todays competitive marketplace.

For the same reason, I cannot see an established foreign maker launching an AMC brand here. The existing brands already have well-established brand names that are meaningful in the eyes of consumers.

The only way the AMC name would be used again is if a completely unknown foreign brand is established here (from China, India or Russia, etc) In that case the AMC brand would be better than say, Beijing Automobile, Tata or GAZ.
But they would not be American - made.
