Transmission cable was off

I'm starting to believe I brought a lemon.I checked the Transmission fluid today and it was a dark purple color, with a strong funny order. When I drove it home it shifted ok but when I tried to go around 65 mph the truck
shook.I noticed the trans cable was off a week ago.I was wondering if that would hide some shifting problems?
I ask the guy what was wrong with the truck.I was gonna buy it anyway because the body was clean and I was gonna fix anything that was wrong with it.I told him I was willing to drop a new motor in it,so that there should have made that bastard ,what the kids say"keep it real".
I was thinking about a flush.I don't drive this 92 Suburban, only drove it home about 3 weeks ago.

Re: Transmission cable was off

Which trans cable? The one that goes in just above the pan near the front?

You gotta love when people sell you something and despite all of your attempts to keep them honest, they still lie to your face. I was looking at an old Fiat and the guy said it had new tires. When I got there they were bald. I said, "you said new tires," and he claimed they were some special italian race slick. They were Bridgestones. I bought the car anyway because fortunately, his stupidity extended to the rest of the car. I bought a 64 Fiat for $400. He could have asked $4000

Most trannys get burnt-smelling fluid. It should be changed, but its not the end of the world as long as its clear. If its cloudy or muddy looking, its REALLY time to change it and hope no major damage was done.

Re: Transmission cable was off

That is the TV cable. If that is not adjusted properly (like if it came out) it could cause serious shifting issues AND damage the tranny. That cable controls a valve which controls the transmission fluid pressure. At idle its low and as soon as you're off idle the pressure shoots way up to keep the clutches pressed firmly together. Without that pressure, the clutches slip, shifts are weak, and things get burnt.
