Stepho's 75 Vette project (w/slide shows!)

Here is what the car looked like when I bought it. (click on pic to view slideshow)

Here is what I did over the weekend (feb 23/24). Lots of stripping sand blasting and removing bolts that are rusted solid. (click on pic to view slideshow)

I am going to paint it black and redo the interior in saddle.

Its as stable as it would be with the doors open. As far as I know thats only a problem if you put it on a lift, but on its wheels its fine.

Everything. Lol. I'm going to paint it black and put on ceramic coated side pipes. The interior is going from silver to saddle. However I am not going to dye/paint anything. Everything is getting rewrapped in leather. Even the plastic bits are going to be covered in leather. I may do a two-tone black/saddle inside, I haven't really decided yet and I still have a long ways to go before I have to make a decission. Since I am in school for welding I am going to make a rear storage compartment cover. It is going to be made out of aluminum, and the doors possibly carbon fiber. I know a guy in the carbon fiber business so I'm going to see what kind of deal he will give me.

If you get a good deal and could afford it, that would be cool. I couldn't find the article, but in a magazine I subscribe to said the new ZR1 fenders are something crazy like well over $800 a piece. I wish I could find it. I got 2 costs stuck in my head one is $863 and the other is $1100. Maybe one is for another part....anyway, not cheap! I remember the mag. said they were shocked they went with that medical company to make them. (MRI machine parts?)
Anyway, I can tell you first hand......DON'T SHORTCUT. If you don't have the money, don't mess with it. My friend and I restored a tractor of his. He bought all kinds of stuff for it. He got factory paint (like $50 a quart back then) for the "frame", as we got it together he was running low on money so he bought cheapo paint (like $8 a quart then) for the "hood".....Long story short the "frame" still looks like a million bucks, the "hood" still looks like a$$.....

Yeah this is just for the doors of the storage compartment. There are three of them, but they are pretty small and flat. The carbon fiber was just a thought, if it is too pricey I wouldn't mind putting carpet on them.

Re: Stepho's 75 Vette project (w/slide shows!)

I got too excited when I read "carbon fiber" and thought you meant the whole door, not just the panel. (black car with carbon fiber doors would be cool though)
Have you priced the aluminum? Another place you could do some price comparison is a trailer shop. They have big sheets of aluminum. And they should have different thickness' too. An 18 wheeler shop I used to work at had a trailer side and they had all kinds of aluminum goodies, a lot of mirror finished stuff too....If nothing else they could tell you where to get a deal. Just an idea.

Not the doors. Behind the seats on the c3s (i think c2s had it as well) there is a little storage bin that has doors on it. looks like this

OMFG! Draw me a picture so the clue bus gets here sooner next time.
I remember that storage compartment now, are you not planning on having anything in back? (like whatever you may pick up running errands) Anything other then carpet would be tough not to scratch.

lol I'm sorry.

Probably the only thing that will be going back there is the T-tops, and I plan to get bags to put those into.

Bags with the crossed flags? That would be cool.
