Popping sound when I take off from a light and stop

97' 4 door 4x4. it's a poppong or knocking sound happens mostly on the drivers side when I stop, start to go from a stop, and when I hit bumps in the road when I'm driving slow. I just had the upper/lower ball joints, inner/outer ty rods, and all 4 shocks replaced. What the He** is it.

Thanks

Could be several things. Hood washer, torsion bar mount, control arm bushings, broken frame weld, and sway bar bushings to name a few. You can search for more info on all the above.

Can you tell us more about it?

Re: Popping sound when I take off from a light and stop

It sounds like it's coming from the drivers floorboard. it happens on the passanger side also but rarely.at first I thought it was in the lower part of the door by the speaker...it's not. I dorve it 3 times today. the first time nothing the 2nd time only when i stoped and started moving again 3rd time everytime I hit a bump in the road...

Another thought might be your door bushings. I recently had that similar problem.

Hood washers, it is in the clunk pop fix in the FAQ.

I had the same noise.

Huh?

They don't come with hood washers from the factory so I don't know how you checked them.

Re: Popping sound when I take off from a light and stop

I checked right where the picture showed and there is a washer between the head of the screw and the plastic molding.
being that I am not the first owner....it is very likely someone that owned the truck before had that problem, and fixed it.

no, I am talking about the actual hood hinge washers.

They are metal and I can almost guarantee that it wasn't done.

I had a similar problem. It was a broken motor mount.

Re: Popping sound when I take off from a light and stop

Just had this problem w/my 98 Blazer. Lubed the door hinges with grease, and it stopped. The doors would pop evey time I took off, stopped, or turned and the body flexed.

Re: Popping sound when I take off from a light and stop

There are so many things on these rigs that can cause a pop. I tried everything I have read on this and other forums, from torsion bar mounts, to hood pin bushings. Mine turned out to be my control arm bushings. The rubber ends of the bushings had shrunk enough to cause a shift when stopping, or taking off. I just re-torqued them and haven't had a pop or clunk since. G/L

Re: Popping sound when I take off from a light and stop

I had the same EXACT problem.... exactly how you described it. One of the vacuum lines on my truck was cut and I couldnt put it in 4 wheel drive. I fixed the vacuum line also replaced the half shaft. No more noise after that

Re: Popping sound when I take off from a light and stop

OMG, i belive that the sound you are describing almost every blazer owner has or will experience. the clunking sound i had was coming from below my drivers side more towards the front, ball joints are in need of replacing in these puppies and thats all mine was. you might want to have your idler arm looked at. the rubber bushing will wear on these pretty commonly. and if there is a vibration in your rig it may wear more easliy. i had replaced my idler arm in about 10 min pus about 15 bucks later the clunk was no more. it came back when the ball joints went bad and now that those were replaced no more sound.
