Finally got a nice practical DD!
the wife and I just picked this up yesterday. '97 SL ATX, about 90k. Really good shape, PRISTINE black interior, nice and solid, just needs a TPS.
Quite happy with the car, but GOD DAMN does it need a couple turbos! lol. I didnt think it would be that much slower than my VR4 since im only at 6psi, but it's a dog! I definitely see a turbo conversion in it's future. |

Nice! It looks to be in great shape!
I had to get rid of my GT recently, just couldn't afford repairs and gas (freaking gas), But I managed to buy an old miata and it has turned out to be pretty fun still.

Nice find man! Looks clean as hell! I know what you mean its slow...I still have my old stealth in the family and drive it from time to time, but then again my 300whp car feels slow to me now since I always drive my friends cars. A 412whp RSX and ~600whp evo have kinda ruined the adrenaline rush I used to get from my car

Re: Finally got a nice practical DD!
Sharp looking car man. I've always liked the 97/98 front ends.
TorchedStealth: I know what you mean. Anymore, I honestly try to avoid going in cars that are a lot faster than mine as everytime I have done so I'm always disappointed.

Re: Finally got a nice practical DD!
The ATX is why the car is such a dog. The gearing kills all the pep.
5 speed swap it and you will be much happier.

Re: Finally got a nice practical DD!
i;m sure the crap gearing doesn't help, but i've been in a 15g ATX and it moved pretty good at 10psi. I dont need to beat a VR4, i just want it to get out of it's own way lol

Re: Finally got a nice practical DD!
A 15g car makes the power to use the ATX long gearing though.

Re: Finally got a nice practical DD!
Yeah, 15G's on an ATX would be fun. If you do it, make sure to build up the trans as 15G's can tear through the ATX on a SL in a hurry.

Re: Finally got a nice practical DD!
Actually the ATX is pretty beefy. The biggest issue is heat. A good trans cooler goes a long way.
