You said 'not American', but don't rule them out.

You could buy an 88-93 mustang for about $3500, and by the time you've spent the rest of the $7K, you'll be looking at 500 Horsepower.

I'd say go with a 240.
I would avoid Eclipses, especially the 2nd gen ones. If looks arent all that important to you, go with a 1st gen. They are sleepers when modified. 240 is a better bet. Try to find an SX. my friend has a base model 240 he found for $2500. runs perfectly. and yes it is quick, however this shouldnt be your only focus.

A "sleeper" is a car that looks very plain, but is really a monster underneath. Something like a pinto with a V8 hidden inside. It's kind of hard for a Mustang (or supra, Z car, or 'obvious' race car) to fool anyone. The idea being that it doesn't look fast, and catches it's prey sleeping. Ok, a Civic with 300hp might catch some offguard, but only if the builder can resist wings, stickers, bodykits and fartpipes.

Saying any particular model of car "sucks" is just plain stupid. Especially one which has a big following, and rich aftermarket. Mustangs aren't bad stock, and can easily be modified into monsters. Same for Camaros, Supras, Z cars, Eclipses etc. And wasn't that the original point of the post?

Consider this: An Integra GS-R comes from the factory at about 100 hp/liter; The Honda engineers have done a lot to get the most out of that motor. A Mustang is about 50hp/liter - so there's room to get more out of the engine - plus it's got 3 times as many liters to work with. If the goal is to take a good car and make it great, which one is a better starting point? Which one will be easier and cheaper to improve?

Re: Wut is a cheap car that is easy to upgrade

If you want a car that goes fast and you aren't too worried about looks, I would seriously look into the 1st gen turboed eclipses and talons. You can find one if good shape for $4000 or under, put the rest into the motor and you'll have a fast car.

I would also have to agree with matada too. If you can find a 240sx with the sr20 swap, you're golden. And you wouldn't have to sacrifice looks either.

The gs-r is only putting out 170 horse stock. And I've never heard of an Integra being AWD. Sounds like you might have your cars mixed up a little...
