changing 3157 socket to 880 socket

I have daytime running lights (drl) on my 1999 Chevy silverado. I want to put color changing bulbs in there, but I can't find the bulb size that's supposed to go there and is color changing. I found color changing (rgb) bulbs size 880 but my socket in now takes 3157 or 3175. I need to change both sockets anyway as they burned out which is typical. I was wondering if I could just cut the wires to the daytime running lights socket and just adjust it so the end would fit into my 880 bulbs. Would this theoretically work? Changing my 3157 socket to a 880 socket connector
