Alfa in the US Again?? ??
Theres talk in Alfa Romeo that they could break into the North American market before 2006. They will be pushing two new SUVs the new 156 based Crosswagon Q4 and the Kamal SUV(to be launched late-2005). The 156 Crosswagon Q4 is like a 156 Sportswagon on steriods with pumped up suspension, big bodykit, advanced Q4 AWD system and torquey diesel power. The Crosswagon will rival the BMW X3 and Volvo XC70. The Kamal will be smaller but a more focused SUV than the Crosswagon. I think its a good that Alfa are thinking of coming back to the US as there is a distinct lack of European marques for American drivers to choose from.

- from autoweek.com
Fiat Auto's new CEO making plans to bring Alfa Romeo back to U.S., sources say Sergio Marchionne, the Italian-Canadian finance expert who took over Fiat Auto last week, plans to bring Alfa Romeo back to the United States as soon as 2007, say suppliers and others. Since Fiat joined with General Motors in 2000, Alfa has had three false starts toward the United States. But there are two advantages this time: 1. Marchionne has moved Maserati's ownership from Ferrari to Fiat Group so Maserati and Alfa can share platforms and the costs of federalizing cars for U.S. standards. 2. In the breakup of the GM/Fiat Group alliance, GM agreed to provide Northstar V-8 engines to Alfa and help federalize the cars. Alfa executives plan to recruit established U.S. dealers. They believe Maserati's U.S. network is too small and too upscale. Maserati will base its next-generation Spyder and its Kubang crossover on Alfa's Premium platform. "The Premium platform has to be federalized, and Alfa could now share these costs," a source says. Marchionne hopes to send Alfa to America with four models on the platform: 1. The Brera 2+2 coupe, which debuts next week at the Geneva auto show. 2. The 159 lower-premium sedan, also debuting at Geneva. 3. A Spyder derived from the Brera, expected to debut at Geneva next year. 4. The production version of the Kamal concept SUV with Northstar. The Kamal is expected to go on sale in Europe in mid-2007. Until it left the U.S. market in 1995, Alfa Romeo had sold cars there since 1952. |

Re: Alfa in the US Again?? ??
It is known that Alfa Romeo will be introducing their 8C Competizione sports car in 2008. However, they have announced their plans to being marketing the 159, Brera, and Spider the following year with speculation that they will also bring the 169 SUV over here by 2010.
How do you think America will accept the car company? Especially since it's design is pretty atypical of what the US is used to. And considering the price range (mid-level luxury segment ranging between $25k-$45K I believe..correct me if I am wrong), do you think Alfa Romeo will stand up to the competition in that price range? Who do you think will buy it? |
